New Symbian UI Improvements is a “design” project in which members suggest concrete design improvements for the Nokia Belle UI.

The ideas are very broad in scope, ranging from a redesign of the homescreen, telephony app and status panel, through to a new multi-screen wallpaper (shown in the image below).

We selected this project firstly because it is a true community effort – it has more than 5 members, 5 non-member contributors, and 37 followers. This is a great deal of interest for a design project that has no code and no guarantee of getting changes into the platform. It shows that there are many people who want to see Belle being the best UI it can be, and also that there is community interest in design and usability (which are often not often the subject of community contribution).

The project has been forwarded to the relevant team within Nokia and we hope that some of the ideas will be investigated further.
