Qt 4.6 and Qt Creator 1.3 released including Symbian support

kamaljaiswal | 14 October, 2009 13:30

Nokia today released the first betas of Qt 4.6 and Qt Creator 1.3:

Great work by Qt team. Smile

releases key themes:

  • Allow Qt developers to target new platforms:  In addition to new support for Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6, Qt 4.6 introduces a port of Qt to the Symbian Platform with integration for the S60 framework.  Together with preliminary support in the Qt Creator IDE for Qt development targeting the Symbian platform, optimizations for the Linux/X11-based Maemo 6 platform and preview code for the newly announced Qt port to Maemo 5, this makes Qt a standard not only for desktop but now also for mobile development.
  • Create new and exciting user experiences: Qt 4.6 adds advanced graphics effects, a new animation framework and support for gesture-based and multi-touch input methods.
  • Deliver better application performance: Performance optimizations to key areas of Qt, a new JavaScriptCore based backend for QtScript as part of an updated Qt WebKit Integration, and new support for hardware-accelerated 2D vector graphics using OpenVG will make Qt 4.6 the best-performing Qt version ever.

If these could be ported then thats great news for the end user and the developers as lot of open source projects could come up.

Great News from Symbian Foundation:Opening the world of Infinite possibilities

kamaljaiswal | 04 June, 2009 16:24

A  team at ST Ericcson, and ARM have the operating system now running on a highly capable SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing) configuration.

The hardware platform is up and running with all interfaces working, including CPU, caches, trace, dual display, memory controller, power management units, modem and RF. The SMP version of Symbian, with what is the same code base that has been checked in to the Foundation source code repository, runs on the dual core, and they have validated the L1 and L2 caches as well as cache coherency and synchronization between the 2 cores.

Kool video from SF ..seeing all the creature alive and kicking Cool

o Simultaneously TV out over HDMI
o Video and Imaging accelerator
o HW accelerated 3D Graphics  supporting OpenGL ES2.0
o 2xWVGA (960×854) displays
o Touch UI on 2 displays

This is really kool Cool

Lee Williams said that multi-core handset can accommodate features such as high-definition video and hardware accelerated 3D Graphics supporting OpenGL.

Symbian said it intended to support the Cortex-A9 MPCore architecture when it was announced in 2007, but that multiple core processing is only likely to be used when required, to preserve battery life on handsets.

Nokia-owned Qt Software is shipping Qt 4.5.

kamaljaiswal | 03 March, 2009 16:09

Qt 4.5 will be the first Qt release to be offered under a more open LGPL ("Lesser" or "Library" General Public License) licensing option, alongside existing commercial and GPL license options.

Qt Software sums it up best when it says that Qt developers "can now build their proprietary applications on top of Qt without paying a licensing fee."

What's new in Qt 4.5

To show developers just how much faster they are supposedly tuning their applications, the company has provided a new "QtBenchLib" performance benchmarking library. Various benchmarks from the library are shown in the following charts.

Raster drawing benchmarks (Source: Qt Software)

Mass updates and moves benchmarks. (Source: Qt Software)

Drawing images benchmark (Source: Qt Software)

These are just few.For more details http://www.qtsoftware.com/

This  result suggest that we can excpet more good  features from the upcoming release of Qt for S60.Just keep finger crossed  Cool
