I've been poking my nose in mobile software development since 2000, starting on what was then the ER5 and Ericsson's R380. Since then I've been doing a bit of everything on the S60 Platform, from learning its bits and pieces to helping others find their way trough the maze.

hello hannz
the sdks are there in the forum nokia website and you can download them for free.
e.g. you can go to this page http://www.forum.nokia.com/Tools_Docs_and_Code/ and download all the sdks and tools required for development the only thing required is you should be a registered forum nokia user.
Cheers,
Gargi

Is not valid for just 14 days and then we need to register. Or is it free? Then what about the 14 day limit? I dont want to work on something for 14 days only to find tht the time was wasted.

Although it is free (as in free beer) the SDK has a mandatory registration requirement. This allows Forum Nokia to track the number of active developers which are doing more than a quick evaluation of the SDK.
After two weeks the emulator will prompt you for a registration key which can be obtained automatically from our servers using a process identical to what can be seen at http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/lucian-tomutas-forum-nokia-blog/2009/02/20/carbide.ui-theme-edition-registration (the "Register now" menu option can be found in emulator window's Help menu).

Hi there, I had to leave Vista 64bit behind me, it chocked on the Netbeans installation, and it rendered about 10 bluescreens in one week ):
Now I'm on windows 7 wish is, nice but the Emulator provided in the N97 crashes on startup.
Could setten all *.exe files under C:\S60\devices\Nokia_N97_SDK_v1.0 to XP + Service pack 2 compatibility mode solve the problem...and a lot more i gues :) I tried to do this on the Emulator alone and it didn't work.
Any other solutions are welcome...since the one I suggest is lot of work. ( i have to open properties for ever *.exe file. )

Have you seen my blog posts about using Windows Vista and Windows 7 for S60 development? If those are not helpful please start a thread on the Discussion Board, it is easier to communicate on those forums.

with windows 7 dont work (the application crash in the first 10 sec.)
any idea????
(patch for vista installed!!!)

It does work, just read my previous blogs about installing on Windows Vista and Windows 7. If the emulator does not start there could be however some issues with for example the audio drivers. A search on the relevant forum on Forum Nokia's Discussion Board will likely help you find a solution.
