We will be shortly releasing a developer edition of MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan 1.2 beta (feel free to crack a joke v 1.2 here) to developers with Nokia N950 Developer Device. The goal of this early access release is to enable developers to verify that their applications do not exhibit any regressions in the new platform version.
This release will be available as a one-click-flasher for Nokia N950 Developer Device. In other words, in order to participate in this beta you need to already have a Nokia N950 Developer Device.
We have done our best to ensure full binary compatibility from Harmattan 1.0 and 1.1 (and 1.1.1 Arabic) to Harmattan 1.2, but we want to offer developers the opportunity to test and verify their apps on the real thing before actual global roll out of the consumer release. There will be also small changes between beta and final consumer release, mostly focusing on ensuring release robustness and performance.
There is at least one known change in the Harmattan 1.2 (and 1.1.1 Arabic) that is impacting developers: The system font change. See blog posts The default font will change -- to bigger and better (18th Dec 2011), Font change part 2: playing with the line height (21st dec 2011) and Font change part 3: Flexible UI layouts (5th Jan 2012) for more details.
More information on the release features and fixes, distribution and Nokia N9 support will be available later. The Nokia N950 Developer Device program was closed in the summer, and thus no new entrants are accepted.

Great and well made move! I already thought about how this update could affect my Application ClipMan but decided to wait and see how it could look like after PR1.2 instead of digging now in the dark and begin after the update to fix it the second time.
Would we be able to flash the N950 back to PR1.1 after the Update to PR1.2?

Hi, when you release PR1.2, please publish the kernel source as soon as possible. A few of us are running in aegis-free "open mode" and we need the source code to patch the kernel.
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,
Is there a complete list of the 3500 changes ? Also when the commercial version of PR1.2 is released will this get pushed to N950 via OTA ?
Thanks guys

And a Final Release Candidate a that?
Because I'm pretty sure if anyone finds bugs in this release you won't be fixing them and respinning the 1.2 build, unless of course it bricks a bunch of devices which would be a completely separate issue.
At least be honest about what this is, as it's not a Beta in the traditional sense - you're only looking for show stopper bugs. Therefore it's a Release Candidate.

@simonB: Get back on the font question later, need to dig that up...
@helex: Nope, you can not downgrade the sw version in N950. This is a limitation we carved in while N950 was still a consumer product, and converting it to a Developer Device came in too late to fix this.
@qole: Source code is available upon request as stated in your PLA.
@colm.smyth: Details on the fixes later.
@MilhouseVH: The schedule of this beta is too tight to allow direct feedback to the actual Harmattan 1.2 release. The aim of this beta is what is stated in the first paragraph: To allow 3rd parties to test their apps for possible regression, fix and submit an update in to Store. The feedback from this beta will roll to later releases for implementation (or postpone / rejection). This applies naturally unless there are last minute hiccups in the Harmattan 1.2 release itself, then it is another story. You never know, in the end it is software...

Is there a List of changes/bugfixes? I have quite serious problems with the N9 phones missing incommande call (guess it could be related to: http://www.developer.nokia.com/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=655).
If not resolved in this version, I think I have to skip this model as it will probably be a while before the next update is released.
SanttuAhonen | 20/01/2012, 13:03
@SimonB: The fonts in N950 and N9 should be exactly the same on Harmattan 1.2.
@JesperC: As I stated before, details on the included fixes will be available later.

"Soon", "shortly", you guys really have a weird idea of time, you know? :)

How are we supposed to test our applications work on PR1.0, PR1.1 and PR1.2? Can you put a word to the RDA (Remote Device Access) that there needs to be devices available on all firmwares? Nokia Store requires that applications work also on PR1.0. But we can't downgrade our firmwares so we're stuck testing on the latest.
This becomes all the more pressing with these font changes.
Even RDA is quite a cumbersome solution for testing these things across different firmware versions. A nicer solution would be appreciated.
SanttuAhonen | 21/01/2012, 11:07
@ajalkane: We have informed the RDA (Remote Device Access service) on this. The other option is to use QEMU.

I noticed that a list of bugs fixed in version 1.2 been released.
Unfortunately, no indications that the problem with missed incoming calls have been addressed.

Hi
Is there any plan to implement a feature, utility which will allow users to change the user data from 9.5GB to lets say around 11-14GB? The Nokia N9 16GB is crippled and just gives users around 9.5GB out of 16GB for user storage for music, pictures, videos etc. Personally I think there should be some sort of feature or utility that should allow users to change the size of each parition on the Nokia N9;
- Application apps
4.2GB
I certainly will not be using that much, what a waste of storage.
- Application data
2.1GB
I am sure I can get away with around 500MB - 1GB
- User data
9.5GB
This definitely can do with space from application apps/application data giving users more storage space.

Hi guys,
The N950 supports Korean font.
Will this still be supported when updating to MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan 1.2 beta.
Also when will Korean font come to the N9? Please add this to the roadmap.
Korean font works on n950 so please bring it to N9 aswel. Thanx
