Nokia today introduced the super-slim Nokia X3 Touch and Type, a Series 40 6th Edition, Feature Pack 1, phone that uniquely combines a touch screen with a traditional 12-button keypad. Consumers can either tap quickly on the phone’s bright color touch screen, or enjoy the familiarity of a full keypad for text messages and phone calls.
For developers, the new Series 40 6th Edition, Feature Pack 1 brings several key features. For one, all LCDUI components are supported, meaning any app written for touch using standard Java LCDUI components in S60 5th Edition will also run on a Series 40 Touch and Type device. Other features include a touch-enabled SDK emulator, two additional touch APIs, Route Editor for GPS simulation, and the enabling of on-device debug (ODD).
The Nokia X3 Touch and Type is attractive, too: It comes in a 9.6-mm case, making it one of Nokia’s slimmest phones ever, and a brushed aluminum back cover will be available in five vibrant colours. Despite its small size, the Nokia X3 is packed with features, including 3G, WiFi, music player, FM radio, 5-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, Nokia Mesaging, Ovi Mail, and an optional 16-gigabyte memory card. Music lovers can supplement the device with Nokia’s new Mini Speaker MD-11, a light, pocket-size audio speaker. The Nokia X3 Touch and Type will be available in the third quarter, and it will retail for 125 euros. The Mini Speaker MD-11 will retail for 25 euros.

This is a cheap phone, but where I live (Netherlands) customers are looking for smartphones, not these type of phones.

How do older Java apps run on this device without D-pad, e.g. games for S40 touch devices?
