The responses to the new Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710, launched at Nokia World, have been wonderful – consumers, operators, analysts all alike see the tremendous opportunity with these new smartphones. And for our developers - we have something exciting for you!
At Nokia World we announced a device seeding plan of unprecedented scale for Nokia – 25,000 of the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 will be put into the hands of developers around the world. Through a combined effort of Nokia and Microsoft, these new devices will be distributed to help you get started developing for Windows Phone right away.
If you received a Nokia E7 back in February when we announced our new smartphone strategy, you’ll automatically receive a Windows Phone device. If you are currently a Nokia Developer Champion or a Nokia Launchpad member, you are already eligible, and you will soon receive an e-mail to explain how to get your new Nokia Windows Phone. If you are new to the Nokia Developer community, then we encourage you to attend one of the many outreach events that will happen over the next few months which will give you the opportunity to get a Windows Phone device.
In order to build an app for Windows Phone you must be a member of Microsoft App Hub. In conjunction with the device seeding program, we are also working with Microsoft to give you a rebate for the first year of App Hub membership (valued at $99 USD) to further assist with your development of great apps for Windows Phone. If you are an active Nokia publisher, you will soon receive details about how to receive this rebate.
We want you to use these devices to develop apps for Windows Phone. You have given us great apps in the Nokia Store for Qt and Series 40. We want more great apps like those for Windows Phone, too. In addition to the devices, there are handy online resources to help migrate your apps to Windows Marketplace.
10 November update:
"Currently a Nokia Developer Champion or Nokia Launchpad member" means you need to be a current member as of Oct 26th (when we announced the new device). The purpose of the seeding is to help our current developers and publishers take advantage of the new devices and join the Windows Phone ecosystem. We welcome all new developers and publishers and encourage them to attend the upcoming outreach events that Nokia and Microsoft will offer.

Yes, individual members of Nokia Launchpad are eligible. You should receive an email with details soon.

Thanks kevinSharp :)

Nokia developers will only have a Nokia Lumia? Or get the Windows Phone 7 developers a Nokia Lumia?
molbal | 09/11/2011, 00:28
Only Nokia developers, not all the WP7 devs. They already have and we don't. ;) (I think)
upa.cool | 09/11/2011, 01:02
I am a new member here. I am a student.
I am willing to develop applications for Nokia Windows Phones.
I am a new individual member to The Nokia Launchpad.
But I do not have a Nokia Windows Phone. I have a Nokia N8. As I have seen that Nokia is giving away 25k phones to developers. Will I get a Nokia Windows Phone too. I need one to try out my apps.
What is the procedure to apply for a Nokia Windows Phone under this developer program?
OXINARF | 09/11/2011, 05:14
I have a Nokia 5800XM and after buying it I started learning Qt (Nokia was saying it was the future). The problem is that it doesn't work well in S60 5th edition devices, so all apps I tried to develop stayed just projects (and so my Nokia Store developer account is empty#.
I am a student and I do not have money to buy every phone that gets out. I would love to be a Nokia Developer Champion or a Nokia Launchpad member but for that I would need to develop something #and for that I need a device#. I understand that people that provided good apps get rewarded but do not Nokia and Microsoft want new people?
You talk about events but I highly doubt that will be much of those here in Portugal.
You should at least have a loan program for developers.
I am already a registered App Hub developer and I already started learning how to develop to Windows Phone but without a device it will not be that easy #sure I can use the simulator but it's not the same).
kenari7 | 09/11/2011, 07:27
I hope Nokia Lumia 800 to Launchpad Member Individual :D
What criteria developer get nokia lumina 800 or 701?
Can not wait for an email from Nokia.
EchOch04 | 09/11/2011, 10:03
I didnit receive any email. I am a Nokia Launchpad member. I am also registered as a Windows Phone Developer.
nowheremanmail | 09/11/2011, 11:29
I received my E7, but after 1 year I'm not launchpad member any more, it was expired. Can I get one also? I'm very interested to continue develop applications with Nokia.
Thanks

Hi kevinSharp,
Is this authentic news that Individual Launchpad members will also recieve the Lumia WP device?
How to confirm? When it is expected to receive email?
niqt | 09/11/2011, 15:25
also I received my E7, but now i can't login to launchpad, why? Ii'm nokia developer and Qt ambassador........
tkataja | 09/11/2011, 16:14
Hi.
Is there any real chance that students with no previous history in Nokia Developer programs could get these phones for development purposes? I am studying computer science at university and willing to develop for Windows Phone.
Thank you in advance.
onedeveloper | 09/11/2011, 17:24
A while ago Chanse Arrington tweeted that Calling all Innovators device winners might get a WP7 phone in addition to Nokia X7. Is there any confirmation on this?
andreagrandi | 09/11/2011, 17:57
I'm a Nokia Launchpad member and a N950 Device Program developer, I hope to be able to get the WP as soon as possible! Do we already know if it will be Lumia 800 or Lumia 710?
tiago.o | 10/11/2011, 02:06
I'm a WP7 developer without a WP7 device, currently using the emulator to test my apps. A test device would be nice, and even nicer if that device was a Lumia 800.
So, what about non-Nokia Launchpad members that are already WP7 devs?
venpoo | 10/11/2011, 06:27
Can I submit my ideas and Apps' demo to somewhere to request a Lumia earlier?
Thanks!

I am a student from China ,all the time I watch for the Nokia devices ,the s60 and s40,now comes to the wp7,I would like to be one of the Nokia developer and do something with the devices to develop apps for Windows Phone.eight years and more.
w3force | 10/11/2011, 07:34
I'm successful wp7 app dev with my apps topping the market place. Also I'm already a nokia developer but not Launchpad member. If would be encouraging if you make me eligiable for the phone.
kbcool | 10/11/2011, 07:35
I'm an active Ovi developer with apps in best sellers and top free lists and tried to sign up to launch pad months and months ago. Every time I go back it just says I should wait for my membership to be approved. I don't know who to contact about getting it fixed.
I would really like to have a go at porting my apps across to windows phone so getting access to a Lumia would be great.
If anyone can help that would be appreciated.

Hello, I am Nokia loyal fans, with your company's classical mobile phone N73, N900, I like n900 very much, its multitasking makes me proud, 32g mass memory is convenient for the office, the expansion of maemo os is Unique, Unfortunately, the official software is lack at present, Only the community provide software upgrades, recently your company on the models had a small scale system security update, I do not know why, In short I like Nokia n900.
Recently, Nokia n9 and lumia 800 are about to release, as the Maemo system supporter, I very like Nokia N9, She is a wonderful work in the history of industrial design, as N900 subsequent models, I really want to experience the fluency of the operating system, so special to your company to apply for a Nokia N9 trial, although I also participated in N9 predetermined, but after 2011.10.28, the good news came too late ... I don't want to give up, so to apply again, please reply. Thank you!
povrazor | 10/11/2011, 08:29
Hey,
I had a Launchpad account, got my E7, but ever since the site redesign I've been unable to log in to (or find) the Launchpad site. Also, I moved. Not sure what to do.
vammala | 10/11/2011, 08:46
When I am trying to login to Nokia Developer Launchpad homepage (for member individuals only), there is allways the same message:
"There is an existing membership application already for this program. The applicant will be notified by e-mail once the membership application has been reviewed."
More then 3 months the same. Whats does it mean in connection with the news about Nokia Lumia?
nabulaer | 10/11/2011, 08:57
Hi,
I got my free e7 at Barcelona world mobile congress in febuary , am I eligible for this as well ? I have started working on wp7 since the announcement of MS & Nokia but have no phone to test with.
ltomuta | 10/11/2011, 09:16
@nabulaer "If you received a Nokia E7 back in February..." refers to those program members who back then have received an email saying "You will receive a Nokia E7 now and a Windows Phone 7 when it becomes available". Well, now it is available. But the offer does not apply to any other scenarios under which one may have got in the possession of a Nokia E7.
ltomuta | 10/11/2011, 09:18
@povrazor Login to the account now, and update your data. If you can't do that, contact the Launchpad program manager, you should have a contact address in the emails received from the program.
ltomuta | 10/11/2011, 09:24
@all: The article says "If you are new to the Nokia Developer community, then we encourage you to attend one of the many outreach events that will happen over the next few months which will give you the opportunity to get a Windows Phone device."
Does this really need more explanation?
ltomuta | 10/11/2011, 09:26
@vammala That message seems to imply that you have already applied for membership but your request hasn't been processed yet.
That means that you are not a member of Launchpad and therefore the comment above applies to you as well.
cuonglebien | 10/11/2011, 09:30
@kevinSharp : Hi, I dont know When I will receive an email with details ?

I've been always a Nokia customer and right now I'm involved as a researcher. We're looking for a WP7 phone where to develop on a medical project.
I think Nokia's doing things pretty right. Welcome back.
brdecka | 10/11/2011, 11:23
H,
our company is launchpad member (we have symbian product out for 2years) and we applied for Nokia E7 in february but, nothing happend, we have not been contacted from Nokia ever.
abouillot | 10/11/2011, 11:32
Hi,
I guess my company didn't renew in time its Launchpad subscription. Therefore, I didn't have access to the information.
In addition, we've moved in the mean time.
Are we still eligible to the WP offer? How can I communicate the correct address?
joaocardoso | 10/11/2011, 12:26
I can see amazing things happening to Nokia and Microsoft in the short run. I never saw 2 companies so committed to make this new venture a success, by involving the developer community.
Nokia was exacly what MS needed to jump-start Windows Phone. Microsoft was exactly what Nokia needed to give consumers a strong and stable platform.
Not sure if I'm eligible or not (launchpad member since Q1 this year), but this news is by it self something that we all that care about Nokia or WP7 development to be happy about. This will give a major push on the platform and on Nokia visibility.
Cool stuff.
madhusudhan_s | 10/11/2011, 13:45

what should i do?

I registered as a Nokia Developer a couple of weeks ago. I am a college student and I am currently working on designs/blueprints for both Symbian/Windows Phone. However, I have no finished apps. I am just starting, as a matter of fact. Will I still be eligible for a Nokia Lumia?
kevinSharp | 10/11/2011, 18:23
@all: there has been some confusion about the eligibility. "Current members" refers to Nokia Store publishers and Nokia Developer Champion and Launchpad members as of the date of announcement of Lumia phones (Oct 26). Joining Launchpad now does not make you eligible for a free phone.
MoritzJT | 10/11/2011, 19:05
If so, why is it taking MONTH to pass the application?! I have registered waaay back and never heard of you since then. I don't think there are myriads of applications to the launchpad program that justify such a slow process. I am not mad for not recieving any Lumia dev phones, but I don't want to wait another set of month until my application passes.
"There is an existing membership application already for this program. The applicant will be notified by e-mail once the membership application has been reviewed."
This is really sad.

Hello from Greece. My name is Anastasios-Antonios Toulkeridis I'm a WP developer and Nokia's greatest fan. I've lost count of the number of times I've defended Nokia on various technology blogs. I love Nokia's new strategy, in fact I sent an e-mail to Stephen Elop prior to the official February announcement asking him to choose Microsoft's excellent OS over android.
colistete | 10/11/2011, 20:05
I won't develop for, neither use, Windows Phone 7, even if Nokia/Micro$oft give me US$ 1 million.
It is a matter of principles and protest after 11/02/2011 (Nokia&Microsoft deal). Principles that are lacking to some Elopian CEO, who avoids answering/commenting about Nokia N9 and MeeGo Harmattan.
Developing for MeeGo/Linux is a pleasure in terms of programming languages, freedom, community, etc.
Developing free and open-source softwares for MeeGo Harmattan, which are impossible on Windows Phone.
Freedom is not on sale.
willtoni | 10/11/2011, 21:14
This is a good move from Nokia/MSFT (kudos) and I can't wait to receive a WP7, but... I applied for my Launchpad Individual membership in March 2011, and I still haven't heard from Nokia since.
When I tried to log into the Launchpad area, I got the message "There is an existing membership application already for this program. The applicant will be notified by e-mail once the membership application has been reviewed".
Should I still have hopes that I will receive a WP7?

kevinSharp: I'm a computer science student at a german university, and am currently working on my Bachelor's Thesis, which handles the development of an app for Windows Phone 7.5 (i can share more details privately). I already have a developer account at Microsoft and can occasionally test the app on a device which I am not allowed to carry with me, so mostly I have to deal with the emulator. Is there any chance Nokia can help me out here? Would be awesome if I could show off the app on a Lumia at the final presentation :)
Cheers

How do I become part of the selected developer?

@maurgaj, @franciscoruiz, @h9k, @imperial_dynamics, @sarguello1992, @fabbri, @ronstrong, @w3force, @ivanxiaojin, @tiago.o,
Our first priority is to get Lumia devices to current Launchpad members so they can port their Qt or Series 40 apps to Windows Marketplace. After that, we’ll still have devices available! Between Nokia and Microsoft, we’ll distribute them through regional events, university campaigns etc. Those details are still being finalized and why we suggest to track the event pages at www.developer.nokia.com and http://create.msdn.com
anthony.fabbricino@nokia.com | 12/11/2011, 00:17
@wiltoni, @MoritzJT, @madhusudhan_s, @abouillot, @brdecka,
Please contact nokia.developer.launchpad@nokia.com to clarify your membership status. We want to make sure we get the Lumia devices in the hands of Launchpad members and do this in a way that is fair, accurate and honest …
colinhelms | 12/11/2011, 00:20

Hello,
I am interested in such program.
Thanks
lazywormapps | 12/11/2011, 06:51
How will the seeding program be dealing with eligible launch pad members who do not have Qt or Series 40 apps that need porting to the Windows Phone Marketplace?
We started our company developing Windows Phone apps and were quick to apply to the Nokia launchpad program as we understand the importance of catering to Nokia customers.
We develop visually rich applications i.e. www.metrotubeapp.com and the display plays a huge role in the design of our applications. As I'm sure you can imagine, having a Lumia device to test on will help us ensure that Nokia customers get the best possible experience!
So my question is, are we still eligible for the seeing program?
Thanks in advance.

I joined the launchpad program on the 27th of October (2011), at the advice of a fellow Symbian developer, who, like myself, was wanting to make the transition to a new platform. Can I assume that I am not eligible to receive a test device?
nowheremanmail | 12/11/2011, 13:11

Very keen to get an early WP7.5 handset in Australia. I have just completed a subject at charles Sturt Uni in mob apps dev - gaining a high distinction as notably the only student electing to take WP7.1(RC) which is Mango.I've been hanging out for N9, but see Lumia 800 is now the Nokia offering. Can I get an early model suitable for Aust market - I'm willing to pay a fair price. GP Comms Engineer
Robin Nixon | 28/11/2011, 18:50
Me too. I've written a utility that lets you drop a web app into any of an iOS, an Android or a WP7 phone and it will create a standalone app running in HTML5/JavaScript. Great for developing once and implementing on all platforms. I can't wait to test it properly, though.
alxdjo | 01/12/2011, 02:13
Still we have no news? Btw why Nokia choosed not to put NFC on Lumia 800?

@ltomuta, @kevinSharp (or anyone from Nokia) :)
When I contacted Nokia to validate my membership status, I'm being told that while I have a developer account, I am not a member of the developer programs (hence, ineligible)...
After not getting the E7, I had Nokia developer account team verify my status and was told that there might have been a system issue that prevented my account from being confirmed before the E7 cutoff date, but that my membership to developer program was confirmed - this was several months ago.
Now, I'm being told that I am no longer a member of dev program and thereforre not eligible for any WP7 device. I'm confused - would you be able to help figure this out?
Thanks!
joaocardoso | 05/12/2011, 16:52
You are referring to Launchpad Account? If you are a member of Launchpad, you should be able to access that area. If you are not a member, if wont be able to access it.
You are only elegible to the offer if you are a confirmed Launchpad member before 26th October this year.
If you did register as a Launchpad member, you should have an email with information on how to contact Launchpad program manager to sort this type of issues.

Hopefully, I am eligible for this promotion. I guess I just have to wait and hope.
Again, thank you for your response.
amesurv | 09/12/2011, 04:50
Any news as to when the phones will be sent out? I still haven't received any email with more information and am eager to start developing further, but really require a device.
Any intel would be appreciatd.
mingulov | 09/12/2011, 08:16
at least another message is received (about "you will soon receive details about how to receive this rebate"), so I think they are working hardly to deliver updates to us
joaocardoso | 09/12/2011, 12:38
Where did you saw that message?
mingulov | 10/12/2011, 08:09
@joaocardoso:
the same like almost any other updates - "currently subscribed to receive updates from Nokia Developer"

Hey Guys! for your information, those who got ordered it was available by mistake as I got the correct information from Nokia. And there is a good news that those who are eligible, you will receive an email with instructions for shipping at the beginning of next week. so don't worry about it. Thanks
chalolo | 20/12/2011, 01:32
So I have a individual launchpad account. Does this mean I am eligible to receive a WP7 device? I have been tempted to explore the WP7 platform but without a device there isn't much experimentation possible or to think of ideas to build on - scratch an itch
bannaje | 20/12/2011, 16:22
Finally got the email and ordered...............
honcheng | 20/12/2011, 16:26

bannaje | 25/12/2011, 18:49
Hey which colour they sent?
amesurv | 26/12/2011, 20:23
Anyone in the US got their Lumia shipped yet? My status still states "New Order"..
yglup | 26/12/2011, 22:40
Mines still says new order also. I ordered when i got the email on the 20th.
cyjohns | 27/12/2011, 15:39
Mine is the same too.
jnirmalj | 28/12/2011, 04:22
the Lumia 800 is the top selling phone at the Australian site in the last week. And the popular Windows Phone has some stiff competition to boot, beating out the Amazon Kindle Fire, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the iPad 2. The black, 16GB version is selling for a very reasonable $578, which is helping sales.
While reports of the Lumia 800 selling well have been coming in, they're mostly anecdotal. This information from Expansys seems to be the first, really solid evidence from a reseller that Nokia's marketing efforts are paying off and resonating with the public.
Still, the UK version of the site has the Lumia 800 at #7, which isn't too bad but obviously it can stand to gain some ground.

amesurv | 07/01/2012, 20:13
My status is still at "New Order"..anyone know when they are shipping US orders?
cyjohns | 11/01/2012, 17:13
Nokia, please give a target date for the US developers.
amesurv | 11/01/2012, 21:49
Completely agree with you - I would sincerely appreciate knowing when my device will actually be shipped and when I would receive it.
bannaje | 12/01/2012, 15:37
Today I received My most desirable Nokia Lumia 800. The design is almost same as N9 except font camera. Thanks Nokia
rd42 | 12/01/2012, 15:56
US developer here - got notification that my device shipped today! Got the tracking # too
cyjohns | 12/01/2012, 20:45
Thanks for the update. I did not get an email yet. I ordered it on Dec 20th. (20.12.2011 17:22). Hopefully, they will send it to the rest of us soon.
amesurv | 13/01/2012, 05:21
What part of the US are you located? I am in the eastern part and I have yet to get any shipment email..
cyjohns | 13/01/2012, 14:04
My guess is, they are sending it based on the order in which they received the orders. I wonder when rd42 ordered. Mine was on Dec 20th. BTW, I am in Wisconsin. No shipment mail yet.
rd42 | 13/01/2012, 15:40
In south US - ordered on 12/20.
cyjohns | 13/01/2012, 16:33
Thanks for the info. Perhaps they are sending it based on when you registered as a Nokia developer. I did on Feb 18, 2011. Sorry to ask too much, but could you please let us know when you registered, if you don't mind? (You can click on your memberId at the top of this page and it will tell you when you registered). Thanks.
amesurv | 13/01/2012, 16:34
Hey guys,
I have still yet to receive any email confirmation. My order was placed on 20.12.2011 16:03 and I have been refreshing the order page since.
@rd42 -- do you know when you exactly ordered the device, as in what time? I just want to compare it to when I ordered to see if any difference is evident..
rd42 | 13/01/2012, 22:26
Registered in May 2009.
Ordered sometime in the morning (before noon) on Dec 20
amesurv | 13/01/2012, 22:39
Did you get a DHL tracking number from Nokia?
cyjohns | 13/01/2012, 22:53
Now it makes sense. They are following the order in which we registered. That is fair. So, I will have to wait a bit longer.
I am eagerly waiting to test one application that uses the Motion APIs. A physical device is necessary.
I'll let you all know when I get the mail.
Thanks much!
cyjohns | 13/01/2012, 22:55
When did you register as a Nokia developer? Like I said, I did in Feb 18, 2011.
amesurv | 13/01/2012, 23:31
I registered on Sep 25, 2011 which is farther from yours, so you would probably be ahead of me in the line..
cuonglebien | 16/01/2012, 16:34
I received the device from Nokia Viet Nam. Thanks Nokia.
cyjohns | 17/01/2012, 17:04
I had ordered on Dec 20 and still haven't received the phone or a shipping confirmation email. Now, the order page does not even show the order. I am not sure what that means. Has anyone else seen this happening?
Thanks.
cyjohns | 17/01/2012, 19:09
Thanks Nokia. It is now showing as shipped from Finland, by DHL. A tracking number is also on the page. No email though.
amesurv and others, yours won't be too long, I hope. Thanks and good luck.
amesurv | 17/01/2012, 22:04
Congrats! Do you know when your order was last modified?
Mine was last modified on 17.1.2012 12:49
cyjohns | 17/01/2012, 22:07
It does not show a time.
amesurv | 17/01/2012, 22:09

honcheng | 18/01/2012, 02:24

iappstudionz | 19/01/2012, 12:17

cyjohns | 20/01/2012, 02:42
Got mine in Wisconsin, US. It was sent from Finland on the 17th.
For the benefit of those who are waiting: I did not get a shipping notification. Check the status at the order page. It was sent by DHL Express.
kunal_the_one | 20/01/2012, 14:06
I was launchpad member and received E7, but my membership expired now. Am I eligible to receive device ?
iappstudionz | 20/01/2012, 15:52

amesurv | 20/01/2012, 22:30
It seems like I am not getting lucky..still no tracking number, email or update on the order page.
I really wish that changes soon Nokia!
zilongabd | 22/01/2012, 16:28
I had ordered on Dec 13 and still "new order".
Why?????
amesurv | 23/01/2012, 16:37
I open my Gmail and finally got the email from Nokia! The device has been sent out and I now have the tracking number.
Thank you all with who I've worked with here on the Nokia Developer Forum - wish you all the best in further development!
honcheng | 23/01/2012, 17:39
Received an email with tracking number.
Thanks
cyjohns | 23/01/2012, 20:47
Glad to see more of us are getting the tracking numbers. In case anyone is wondering, the phone works with t-mobile too. I had read somewhere that the unlocked Lumia 800 to be sold at the Microsoft stores work with AT&T only. I took the t-mobile SIM from my older Android phone, cut it to micro-SIM and it's working fine in the Lumia.
Cheers!
amesurv | 23/01/2012, 23:43
Thanks for the heads up on the network abilities of the device.
The status of the shipment on DHL is "Shipment information received" which I hope changes soon to actually being shipped out.
Again, thanks so much for your correspondence on this forum - it's been a great experience for all of us.
amir18 | 30/01/2012, 01:52
I never got email about the Lumia phone distribution for developers?
Can I get one please?
Thank you.
mrbijan | 01/02/2012, 10:18
Hi Nokia Developers
I'm one of the developers of the service RoadAid (www.road-aid.com) which is currently in open beta in Denmark.
We are in the process of making a Windows Phone app, which is already quite far in the development process.
In this regard, I am reaching out to you in hope that you can guide me in where to apply for the Windows Phones for developers and the one year rebate for publishing apps to Windows Marketplace in conjuction with Microsoft.
Thank you.
Best Regards
Bijan
zilongabd | 01/02/2012, 16:06
Received it
Jetch | 11/02/2012, 15:23
I did receive email that told Lumia 800 was sent (Posti). That was at 13.1. And nothing has come after it, at least shipment details should have come. It has been almost month and I live in Finland. Please contact me. :(
