Nokia Developer Champion shows how to build a free music server

Did you know you can convert a Nokia Symbian phone into a free music web server? Nokia Developer Champion Sebastian Montabone has done exactly that. He describes how you can, too, in a recent blog post.

Sebastian conceived the project as a way to consolidate his music files, which were scattered on CDs, MP3 players, phones, and laptops. ‘I thought about having a dedicated media server, a PC with a lot of music in it and a web interface, so that anyone at home could access the whole music library’, he explains. ‘But a PC is big, noisy and difficult to transport, so that's when I thought about using a cellphone. You already have one, it has everything you need, it is small and silent, and you can carry it anywhere... perfect!’

What’s more, Sebastian says, the entire project took him only a single afternoon. ‘Anyone following the instructions should be ready in minutes, depending on the experience of the user’, he says.

Check out Sebastian’s complete step-by-step directions for turning your old Nokia Symbian phone into a music server.
