Symbian Anna, Nokia’s platform update for smartphones originally shipped on the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6 phones, is now available for downloading onto the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, and Nokia E7. Developers can create Symbian Anna apps and content using Flash Lite 4, Java Runtime 2.2, Qt Mobility 1.1, and Qt 4.7.
Symbian Anna adds features including a new user interface, virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen messaging, enhanced Nokia Maps, better web browsing, and stronger security. The Symbian Anna software update also activates the Near Field Communications (NFC) hardware in the Nokia C7, so users can simply tap together their Nokia C7 phones to share contacts, photos, and videos; play games; easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories from Nokia and others; and read NFC tags to check-in and more.
Symbian Anna can be downloaded now in selected markets using the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.1.1) on a PC, or over-the-air directly to a smartphone. The downloads are offered for Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, and Nokia E7 phones purchased before Symbian Anna was available, as more recently acquired phones already ship with the new software.
