Gergely Csúcs, Forum Nokia’s Champion of the Month for July, is a Zurich, Switzerland-baed electrical engineer. While Gergely jokes that he has a ‘fading knowledge about wires’, the Forum Nokia community knows him for his extensive knowledge about Symbian mobile software development. In fact, Gergely is well known for his work in mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) file transfer, information retrieval, and energy-saving techniques in cooperative wireless networks. He has also co-authored the chapters of several books on mobile development. To share his knowledge with the Forum Nokia community, Gergely appears on the discussion boards as wizard_hu, and he has helped many developers keep their projects on schedule.

Developers who have used the Nokia Qt SDK beta to create Symbian apps that use the 1.0.0 Qt mobility APIs must repackage their apps with the 1.0.1 version of the mobility APIs. Nokia has discovered a deficiency in the 1.0.0 APIs that causes apps to crash when devices are updated to a later version of the Qt libraries. Fortunately, Nokia caught the deficiency at an early stage, and very few apps and developers are affected. The issue applies only to Symbian and only to applications that use and are packaged with the 1.0.0 Mobility APIs. The deficiency has been fixed in both the 1.0.1 APIs and the Nokia Qt SDK version 1.0.
Any developer now using the beta version of the Nokia Qt SDK for Symbian should move to the 1.0 version. Developers who used the Nokia Qt SDK beta for Maemo, however, do not need to repackage their apps, although they may wish to move to the SDK 1.0 version to keep current. Also, to protect consumers, Nokia will soon introduce a mechanism for Ovi that detects which mobility APIs are bundled with a submitted app. Once the mechanism is in place, apps with the 1.0.0 mobility APIs will not be accepted by Ovi, and developers will be instructed to repackage their apps with the 1.0.1 mobility APIs.
Read more about this issue on the Qt
Labs blog.

Forum Nokia's User Experience Program expands to include thousands of test users around the world
As a developer, you can test the functionality of your new application all day long, but there's nothing like a fresh pair of eyes to really shed light on what really works and what can be improved relative to the user experience of an application. That's why Forum Nokia is proud to announce that it is augmenting its design expertise available through its User Experience (UX) Evaluation service with the valuable crowd-sourced user feedback that comes from Mob4Hire.
While the Forum Nokia UX Evaluation is conducted by a design expert who uses platform style guides and their own knowledge to suggest flows and wireframes, the user feedback available from Mob4Hire consists of instantaneous responses from everyday mobile application users. This unfiltered, unbiased feedback is invaluable for developers who want to refine their UX and services before submitting it to the live market environment of Ovi store.
Like the UX Evaluation, the Mob4Hire service is available for a low price, but both of these services are much more inexpensive than hiring in-house resources for application UX development and refinement.
To find out more and register for these services, please visit the User Experience Services page.
And for more information about Mob4Hire, please watch this quick video overview:

The Nokia Qt SDK 1.0 is available starting today, and it offers a true cross-platform development environment allowing developers to create applications for both Symbian and Maemo devices. Installation is easy, as it only requires one installation package that downloads all of the Qt and Symbian/Maemo components that developers need using the same Qt Creator 2.0 as standard Qt SDK’s for use on Windows, Linux and Mac (beta).
The Nokia Qt SDK 1.0 includes the Qt 4.6 libraries plus additional API’s for mobile development. With a fast, new simulator along with on-device debugging and the ability to compile to both .sis (Symbian) or .deb (Maemo) packages, it provides developers with a great opportunity to start creating amazing apps right away.
Availability of Nokia Smart Installer for Symbian
Qt developers can use the new Nokia Qt SDK 1.0 to easily bundle the Nokia Smart Installer for Symbian SIS with their app SIS to reach millions of users with Nokia Symbian devices worldwide. When an end user downloads an app, the Nokia Smart Installer for Symbian will check for dependencies, and if any missing files or Qt libraries are detected the Nokia Smart Installer for Symbian will download them from Nokia servers.
For more information, please visit the Qt section of Forum Nokia.
Ovi Store intake for Qt apps
Finally, Qt developers can now upload Qt Symbian apps targeting both the Nokia N97 mini and Nokia X6, as well as Qt Maemo apps for the Nokia N900 mobile computer. The Nokia N8 will be supported when it’s released later this year, and additional Nokia Symbian (5.0 and 3.1/3.2) devices will be supported in the future, allowing Qt developers to reach a growing market of Nokia users worldwide. Applications will be published to Ovi Store beginning next month.
