Shazam gives consumers instant satisfaction in those times when they want to know the name of the song that is playing. It allows consumers to discover new music, learn about the artist, get chart information, music recommendations, buy the song and share their discovery with their family and friends via mobile, Facebook or Twitter.

Shortly after launch in Ovi Store, Shazam doubled the amount of countries they were in from 60 to over 120.

Shazam captures a sample of the music playing, by recording a 10 second clip via the device’s microphone. It then presents the consumer with the name of the tune, the artist, and the track. It also shows the album artwork (if available) and allows the purchase of related content such as ringtones, full-track music and wallpapers. The application’s ability to identify songs is phenomenal, as the Shazam server draws its references from a database of 8 million songs – and growing. From the Cranberries, to Harry James to the Wiggles, it recognizes all kinds of music, and can correctly sort out different artists covering the same song.

"Having our application on the Symbian platform is a fantastic opportunity for us," says Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam. "The openness of the Symbian platform allows us to plug into numerous other partners, and the number of devices out there gives us a great opportunity to share the magic of Shazam. Four weeks after we launched on the Ovi Store, we became the number one download. Eighty-five percent of the consumers who downloaded the app became active users." Shortly after launch, Shazam doubled the amount of countries they were in from 60 to over 120.

Shazam is available on all Nokia Symbian (5.0 and 3.2) devices including Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 and Nokia E72.  Nokia will also be preloading Shazam onto many mobile handsets including the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic, Nokia X6 and Nokia X3. The Nokia Symbian (S60 5.0) device version makes full use of the touchscreen capabilities of the device, allowing consumers to tag music by touching the Tag Now icon on the screen.
