EyeMags: An App Factory for All

OviPublisherSuccesses | 11 March, 2011 03:26

EyeMags, acquired by Alibro Ltd. in 2009, targets ordinary people who want to create an app but may not have the technical knowledge.  In short, EyeMags is a web-based app generator that allows anyone with content to create and publish an app for multiple devices and platforms.  The company's simple recipe for apps has turned out to be a success on Ovi Store.  Since its debut, eight apps created with the company’s online service have received over 1.2 million  downloads across more than 190 countries.

With more developers attempting to cut down the increasing costs of app development, they are commonly turning to simpler alternatives. The goal of EyeMags is to assist aspiring developers and veterans alike by providing a simplified process for the creation of casual and easy-to-consume mobile content.

Using the EyeMags web-based generator located on its website, individuals can easily design and publish an app resembling a mobile digital magazine.  All they need to do is upload content and EyeMags will do the rest.

The service creates apps, powered by WRT (Web Runtime) for Nokia devices, that feature up to 10 different screens of text and pictures.  The service also produces seven variants of an app, making it available across multiple platforms including Symbian.  Consumers then access completed apps using a device’s web browser or by installing it locally, eliminating the need for an Internet connection.

Through its Premium and Pro services,
EyeMags provides developers with more options such as increased page count and additional language support for languages that require bi-directional text such as Chinese. Consumers are able to create EyeMags in their own language -- all fonts and languages are supported, including right to left languages, specifically Hebrew, as an example.

Even the service to create apps may be easy and simple to use, the ideas and trends propelling
EyeMags are not.

As
All About Symbian wrote, "Casual-consumable content is making up an increasing proportion of app store content. The EyeMags service is providing a potentially mass market solution on the leading edge of mobile content trends."

To date, EyeMags has processed 10,000 different apps and has supported 8,000 developers worldwide.

Optical Illusions and London City Guide are two popular examples of finished EyeMags apps.  Optical Illusions features images that will tease your brain while London City Guide displays images of popular tourist destinations accompanied by text descriptions.

Another popular app is Wonder of the World, which was featured on Ovi Daily App.

One reviewer wrote, "These apps kept me and my friends entertained!"

Another said, "This is cool for the mind and the eyes."

A total of 12 paid apps from EyeMags and 20 different publishers are available on Ovi Store. Apps range in price from free to $1.99 USD and are available on the N8, C7 and E7 Symbian devices, as well as on S60 touch phones including the Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia 5800, Nokia 5230, Nokia 5530.

Here's Robin talking about EyeMags at Nokia World 2010:

"We've been working with Nokia for about seven years," said Robin Jewsbury about his experience with Forum Nokia.  "It is very much a two-way process; Nokia helps me and sometimes I help them. All the people at Nokia are the absolute best.  They are the top in their industry."
