For the past six years, MobiFun Soft has been solely dedicated to creating apps that provide clever and useful solutions for a consumer's personal and professional lifestyle. Boasting simple and intuitive user interfaces, MobiFun Soft's free and paid utilities leverage Nokia Symbian phones to provide smart and useful features to users around the world. The company's most popular utility app is Mr. Lock - an app that takes care of auto-locking a mobile phone's keyboard in any situation. To date, Mr. Lock has received more than 1.5 million downloads in Ovi Store across more than 190 markets worldwide.
MobiFun Soft, a Bulgarian-based company, was founded in 2005 by CEO Elitsa Dobreva and Kamen Dobreva, the leading developer for the company. Both Elitsa and Kamen created MobiFun Soft to fulfill their passion about improving the mobile user experience with small, lightweight apps that filled big needs for mobile consumers. Since its inception, MobiFun Soft has been focusing exclusively on app development with the Symbian platform. In addition to Mr. Lock, the company has developed several other apps that have found success in Ovi Store, such as Eco switch, and Remind Me (free and paid).
Mr. Lock was created at a time when auto-keyboard locking was not a core part of the Symbian OS feature set. More recently, feedback from a friend led to the creation of a paid version, Mr. Lock Advanced - for sale now in Ovi Store.
With Mr. Lock, consumers have the ability to auto-lock their keyboard in several different ways, with many different customization options available. These options include:
One user comments, "Mr. Lock is one of the most useful apps available for Symbian phones. It is simple to use and is very effective as it allows users to customize exactly when they want to auto-lock their keyboard. Thanks for the great app, and best of all, it's free!"
Since MobiFun Soft developers create apps exclusively on Nokia's Symbian platform, the developers have mastered the art of using the standard Symbian C++ APIs and were able to create Mr. Lock in as little as three to five weeks. In addition, the developers took complete advantage of the standard Symbian server/client architecture, enabling them to have a server running in the background which expels user inactivity. If a user has set up their phone to lock after a five second period of inactivity under the "Silent" profile, for example, the developer's server is able to check the app settings, active profile and lock the keypad if necessary.
One of the unique features found in Mr. Lock, allows users to add the app to their shortcuts widget instead of launching the app settings. This process makes it much more convenient for users to quickly lock their mobile phone's keypad.
Another distinctive feature is how users can change the app icon of Mr. Lock - a feature not available with many other similar apps. In order to add this feature, the developers reverse engineered the resource file format and then manually modified the localisation information file.
These small changes and user customisation options create a powerful, yet simple-to-use app, which has quickly spread to consumers worldwide. This kind of simplicity has allowed MobiFun Soft to focus on development, and leverage the resources provided by the Nokia Developer team to create a powerful, popular app in a short period of time.
"The Nokia Developer team community is an indispensable place for receiving help and guidance, making it a key reason as to why we develop exclusively on the Nokia Symbian platform," says Elitsa Dobreva, CEO of MobiFun Soft. "We've found that Remote Device Access and the Discounted Device Program are two great services that have provided us with much support. In addition, creating Symbian apps in Ovi Store automatically builds awareness for us and spans our reach to a worldwide audience. We thank Nokia for all of their guidance and look forward to our continued efforts to create apps for their future phones."
MobiFun Soft continues to explore innovative techniques to upgrade their apps, and are currently working on a program that will save the battery life of a mobile phone by switching to power saving mode automatically during the night. The company plans to announce this new improvement in the near future.
