just a thought. I know changing OS in a phone is near-impossible that's why I just thought of putting them together. If this is made possible, then people will love their devices such as 808 and etc. even more. I'd be willing to pay for the OS installation ((:

WP8 Camera Metering

Hi guys!:cool:

I wonder if it is possible in a camera application to set spot metering...

In Windows Phone 8, the exposure is central weightened, but often this is not good.
I mean: in camera applications of competitors, in fact, the exposure is linked to focus point, so that when you tap on the screen to set the point of focus, camera calculate also the best exposure mostly for that point!

I read the "advanced photo capturing", but no reference to metering!

Any ideas?:confused:

Hello,
I am creating a xml file within my application. I want to send this file as an attachment when the user sends mail.
Since the EmailComposeTask do not allow attachments, and I don't want to use third party api's at present, I was looking at using ShareMediaTask api.
Here is the code that invokes the shareMediaTask:

Can someone provide some insight.

How to test email on windows phone 8 emulator?

Hello,
I'm building a new app that requires email support.
To test it, I created a new EmailComposeTask with sample subject and other details.
But how do I test it on windows phone 8 emulator?
I am not able to register either gmail or yahoo mail on the emulator. It gives out an error message while registering any mail.\
Any ideas? Or has anyone used mails on wp8 emulator?

XAML - Drawing images async?

This is a basic XAML question (although I'm writing a Win Phone 8 app).
I have a routine that draws shapes onto a canvas.
(There's a mathematical algorithm that determines where to draw these)

What I want to happen is that when the user clicks a button, it starts drawing these images and they appear one-at-a-time.
What actually happens is the screens locks and all of the images appear at once (after a few seconds).

I've tried using async await, but it doesn't work.
I get an exception, "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it."

I've read that there's only one UI thread and (implied) that what I want isn't possible.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? It seems that there has to be a way to do this.

WP8 how to get network notification

Hello All,

I am trying to achieve something like this in my app, when ever wifi network status changed (connected or disconnected or not in range etc) my app should get a notification so that I can take necessary action. I am using below code -

Windows.Networking.Connectivity.NetworkInformation.NetworkStatusChanged += NetworkInformation_NetworkStatusChanged;

But code does not seems to be working for me. I run my app and then go and disconnect wifi but I will not get any notification in app.

Do I need to run my app in background for that or any other capabilities I need to add etc.

A2DP, how to send audio to headset?

I am trying to send a sound to a headset. I can create a BT connection, but I don't know what to do now.
Reading the documentation, I know that I have to send a Stream End Point Discovery command.

But the BT documentation is not so easy to understand and I can't find any example on the net.

After pairing and connecting the headset, I want to send the first packet, but I the headset doesn't give me any response.

To test multi-touch I am building a simple drum kit-like app. This is a combination of other samples on the internet and in these forums. The trick is clearly using the System.Windows.Input.Touch.FrameReported event instead of Tapped or anything else; it's the fastest without question. When the user taps on a single "drum" in my sample it works perfectly. However, when the user attempts to tap two at a time (and I mean at the exact same time), there is no event raised. I am testing on a (WP8) Lumia 920.

Simple enough, huh? There are some occasions where the Debug line actually reads (2) instead of (1). But these only occur when I ever-so-slightly stagger the touches to be not quite simultaneous. Otherwise, it's one and only one occurring - and nothing occurring when two simultaneous taps occur. So, I have a few questions:

Is this even possible?
What's the trick?

App architecture suggestion

I have a big WP app to develop which involves heavy XML data to to be received from server & display that on UI. Now data being large, keeping the user waiting on splash screen(& showing those moving dots as wait) till the data is being received might be annoying for users, plus i wanted to keep the UI separate from back-end process so that it does not gets hang at times. Now i have the following queries:

1) Should i follow MVVM/MVC approach here for keeping business logic separate from UI.

2) What is the best approach to not keep user waiting on the splash screen & proceed to home screen of the app(a blocker which i see in this is that , user might start scrolling, navigating to other pages of app which might make access the things(objects, database etc.) which currently are under processing i.e. xml data is being parsed & saved. One way i can think of is to keep the UI updating as the xml data get saved & parsed but did not allow user to do any thing till its fully received & parsed.

3) Lastly what is the best way to parse & save the XML data received from server(i have multiple requests which are fired one by one as the app is launched & all those result in large XML response(this does not happens always but sometimes, may be weekly etc.), so should i go for database saving approach or file based or else. A point to note is that i need to store that xml data in persistent as there's need to pick data from there only in cases when the response from those beginning requests is blank.

Would be updating more info as the this discussion proceeds further.

Error while Creating Smash Session

Its good to see you after a very long time...:)

Anyways..Well my problem is, i am using Hawaii Project Smash Service hosted by Microsoft Research.
Well each application that uses a Project Hawaii service must authenticate itself with the service by using either a Hawaii Application ID or Azure Data Market (ADM) client ID and secret, I have Generate my Hawaii App ID (From Here)

And i had also generated my ADM ClientID as well as Secret ID, to run the sample application in Hawaii Project i need to Edit the "HawaiiClient.cs" to enter my ADM credential as well as Hawaii GUID.

I have done with all the above mentioned process, but still i am getting exception regarding my "Invalid ClientID" as shown in the figure below:

I don't know what actually is the problem with my ADM clientID, but its the same i used to register the application at ADM the same error is showing on desktop based application also.

Change Microphone SampleRate

Hopefully I'm in the right Forum this time... :)

I want to make a guitar tuner-App for the Windows Phone 7.5 Plattform just for fun and planned to do this with the Fast Fourier Transform-API (Sound pattern matching using Fast Fourier Transform in Windows Phone)

Now the frequencies of guitar strings go from about 80 Hz up to about 330 Hz. Yet, because the samplerate of the Microphone is fixed at 16000 samples per second, I'll have to calculate the frequencies for 0Hz - 8kHz. This results in a lot of unnecessary calculations, which lowers either the speed or the accuracy of the tuner. Therefore I need to know if there is a possibility to change the samplerate of the microphone in order to make the intervall of the computed frequencies smaller?

Please excuse my poor english, I haven't been using it for quite some time.

I get ....
Error 1 The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)
Please rebuild the solution and try again.

I rebuild and there are no error messages but when deploy, I get 0x80070002)

My dell i3 64b windows 8 pro computer is usb attached to my lumia 920 which is unlocked and I have just purchased developers licence.

How to handle infinite page navigation loops?

Hello, I'll give Twitter as an example for an "infinite page navigation loop":

In twitter there is a page where we can read a tweet (page A), in that tweet there might be a "mention" and when we click on it we go to the mentioned user's profile page (page B). From the profile page we can see the user's tweets so we can navigate to tweet reading page again. This can go on forever and we might end up with a very deep page stack:

Page A => Page B => Page A => Page B => Page A ...

My question is: is this hurtful for our app? Might this consume all the phone memory and crash the program after a while? If yes how should we avoid or handle this problem?
