Reducing Colors of an Png

Hello everyone,

i would like to reduce the colors of an .png to a certain amount.

so far i have been using Paintshop but my boss wants me to do it in a program so he only has to push one button and he gets the resource output in one folder without switching different applications.

Anyone know of a good way to do it in code or of a good converter i can access from code?

perfect would be java but i would use any other language thats needed:-)
