I am a customer from China and planning to go to San Jose, CA? Which carrier provide the GPRS, EDGE and 3G network in San Jose and Mountain View ? What is the general situation of GPRS and EDGE in San Jose and Mountain View (bandwidth, stability etc.) ? For example, how long does it take to download a file of 3MB through GPRS and EDGE? And what is the situation of 3G network in the two places mentioned above?
If you are talking about GSM
AT&T and T-Mobile US are the providers in here. AT&T has 3G, but I have not tested the download speeds. Do not know the situation with T-Mobile.
In general I would say the download speeds are slower and the connections more unreliable than what is available in Europe. I do not have experience with Chinese wireless networks so I cannot compare.
Other network technology in use is CDMA and Verizon and CDMA are the providers in here.
Sorry, I am not much of help in here. Also I cannot test the download speeds until next week when I am back in the office in Mountain View.
