AT Commands (was Re: Ask the Expert: Remote Device Access)
Hi,
Is SMS read using AT commands to Nokia E51 not possible?
I am able to send SMS messages using hyperterminal, but some AT commands especially those involving SMS read seem not working.
I read from some other threads that newer S60 phones dont support SMS read AT commands. Is this part of the design, or is this a bug? Does nokia plans to support SMS read AT commands in the future?
These info from hyperterminal might be helpful.
AT+CPMS=?
+CPMS: (),(),()
AT+CMGS=?
OK
AT+CMGR=?
ERROR
AT+CMGL=?
ERROR
If SMS read is possible, please point me to the right documentation. Thanks.

I believe there is a FN Wiki article on AT Command, search there. How are you sending these commands? What language, what connection etc.

Re: AT Commands (was Re: Ask the Expert: Remote Device Access)
Hi Ron, thanks for your reply.
Phone language is english. I'm using a usb connection, and I am sending commands via hyperterminal in windows. There is no problem sending sms messages via hyperterminal.
I found the FN wiki on AT Commands.
http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/AT_Commands
It has the same AT Commands for reading sms messages as I mentioned in my previous post(AT+CMGR), which produces an error.
I found another post,
http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54320
which says about reduction of the functionality of SMS AT commands in Series 60.
I'm just wondering if this is part of the design or if this is a bug, so I would know if I gonna expect a firmware update from nokia. Or if I would expect the same AT Commands reduction in future versions of nokia phones.
Anyway, for now I'll just find older phones to connect to my pc.
Re: AT Commands (was Re: Ask the Expert: Remote Device Access)
This is really not my field so all I can say is that this document http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/95672052-6c77-488d-a055-acef77e4cdc5/AT_Command_Set_For_Nokia_GSM_And_WCDMA_Products_v1_2_en.pdf.html
should have it all, check it out. if that doesn't help send me a private e-mail with this on it and I'll ask around on it.

Developers can use the messaging API to build PC applications that create, modify, and delete short message service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) messages. The API can be used to send and receive SMS and MMS messages.
