is there an affiliate program in place for content published on the OVI Store?

I'd like to know the answer to this too.

An affiliate programme would be very useful for generating media coverage of the Ovi Store as the media outlets would be rewarded for linking to particular content in the store.

It's very strange that there's no overall moderator answering these questions. Maybe someone at Nokia could assign someone to the Ovi Publishing board?

Hey Alessandro, currently we don't have an affiliate program for Ovi Store. With that being said we're continuously looking for suggestions from Ovi publishers so I'll ask the team what their thoughts are.

Doing an affiliate programme would give media outlets a direct financial incentive to promote Ovi Store.

You could fund the development of such a programme from whatever publicity budget Ovi Store has, because it would generate third party coverage for the service.

I definitely second this. For many online journalists, the availability of a powerful affilate program is what makes or breaks a platform.

BUT: MobiHand's current offering is so well-doine that I fear Ovi will have a hard time. They offer their partners a very large commission, and do ALL the work...

Folks: the problem we face here is the huge initial investment. As an example, look at my own TamsSHop and compare it to one of the web sites:

I don't think that Nokia wants to get into this business. It wouzld have to offer rates north of 25% to make the switch attractive...and then nthe question still remains for web sites covering more than one OS.

an affiliate program is a multiplier for sales, it's a win/win situation for everyone.
Do you think the largest OEM in the world cannot do it?

It's not that difficult to do it neither, so I do not see any issues.
Apple has it for the AppStore.

I know I would take advantage of an affiliate program.

I think it would be worth doing even at a low level to help drive a virtuous circle.

With all due respect Tamhanna, none of that makes any sense.

What "huge initial investment"? What exactly would be so expensive about an affiliate programme? Even small companies are capable of setting up affiliate programs nowadays, they're not technically difficult to do. I've known some very small companies indeed set up affiliate systems.

Why do you talk about "making the switch"? Most phone software sites (Handango, Clickgamer etc) cover as many formats as they can. Clickgamer has iPhone Store affiliate links, why shouldn't they be given the chance to have Ovi Store affiliate links?

And what exactly are we meant to learn from those two links you gave? I don't see anything expensive on either of those sites.

Nokia has already put a huge initial investment into setting up Ovi Store, so they're already in this business anyway. The cost of adding an affilaite programme to it would be tiny in comparison, but it would have great potential benefits.

I'm sure Ovi store will try to make success simply on mobile phone units but initial boost could be done by websites and should involve some kind of affiliate store. In my opinion some kind of RSS feed will be best.
