SMS URL Scheme Support in S40 browser 2.2.0.0.33
Hi,
I am trying to use SMS URL scheme in my web site which targets Nokia devices, yet it is not working. I am testing on Asha 311 with browser version 2.2.0.0.33, yet ir is giving me "Sms is not a registered protocol" message.
The documentation mentions this is supported since browser version 1.5 so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I have tried this
<a href="sms:+35801234567?body=hello%20world">SMS</a>
and many other alternative (with body field and without), I tried also with smsto and none is working.
I am not sure what is the issue here, if this is supported in the S40 broswer at all, and only work in web apps as I am developing a normal web site, and i am failing to have this work at all.
Appreciating your support
Regards,
Kareem

Ilkka is the expert. I suspect if there had been a workaround (other than loading the site through a web app) he would have listed it.

Ikka,
The SMS handler in Web Apps is broken.
Previously before Nokia S40 browser was updated, the "sms:123?body=hello" is working in web apps/S40 browser as well as S60 browser.
After S40 browser was being forced to be updated, "sms:123?body=hello" is no longer working in web apps/S40 browser. But it is still working in S60(including Belle) browser.
Please advice.

Hi 11popo,
Unfortunately I don't know a solution for your problem. The best way to get help is to post a question to Nokia Support Discussions:

Ilkka,

browser version = 2.0.0.68.14 (after forced update)
Nokia Asha model = Nokia Asha 302
Nokia firmware = V 14.53 20-03-12 RM-813
Nokia product code = 059L157ET26hD219
Unfortunately I do not have information on the default/original browser version number. I hope that the product code or firmware can help you to identify the original/default browser.
Problem with Nokia S40 Browser: unable to support "sms:123?body=hello". After clickin on the SMS URL, the phone displays a screen "create message" option. By right, the phone should automatically compose a SMS with "To:123" and "Body: hello"
Background: we had developed a web app thats create a geo-tagged SMS, it worked the first time. But after S40 browser was forced to be updated, it no longer works.
Thanks for helping.

Re: SMS URL Scheme Support in S40 browser 2.2.0.0.33
I wish to add to my comment in this thread and to confirm that Asha/S40 browser no longer supports SMS URI e.g. "sms:+123?body=hello" or "sms:+123"
Asha will show an error message "protocol not supported".
However, in Nokia Belle browser, it works.
