There are no Official API for this, so best you could do, is to search what has been discussed earlier, and then try out whether any of the methods would work with your device. basically as there is no official API, each versions of the Maps application might work differently.
if you need maps with your application, I would suggest you use Qt Maps API.

But Qt is not well support Symbian s60 3rd devices, Is not it?
Yep, 3rd edition support with Qt is not reallt great.
BTW, best device support options you would actually be getting with our Java Maps API, it is supported generally by all Symbian devices, along side S40 ones.
