Could you post a calls you're making to get the String from the InputStream?
Also, try calling trim() to get any whitespace off the start or end of the String:

I've just installed it on WinXP with no service packs and all seems well, I do have what seems to be a configuration issue and it seems at least one other has it so I won't point the finger at...
