a ) for a application with basic capabilities, you can self-sign, such capabilities are : LocalServices, NetworkServices, ReadUserData, UserEnvironment and WriteUserData (and location?), webpage say that location is allowed but forum say otherwise.

b ) If you required more capabilites then you can create a imei specific in the simbiansigned webpage. Fexplorer for example ask for it.

About the anti-virus, this may lead to another discussion. IMHO, if we install only applications from "trusted" sources, we should not worry about virus at all. That's why I don't install any anti-virus on my phone either.

Even before Symbian 9 based devices, malicious apps were not an issue, unless you downloaded apps from dubious sources, or accepted unsolicited appllications sent to you (even by people you know).

In other words, the antivirus apps today on a mobile phone serve little purpose as perhaps providing piece of mind to the ultra-paranoid and careless users (at the cost of additional money, memory, battery and processor performace consumption).

Its not virus's you should be worried about, rather its spyware/adware.

Same thing; malware, malicious apps all the same (with different purposes). And same precations help against all kinds of malicious apps.

One extra security measure could be nice to have, though: A setting to prompt for the security code when installing apps. That way nobody should be able to install any apps on your phone, if you leave it unattended for some reason.

I wouldn't be worried about pure adware, i.e a software that is paid by advertisements, since that in general will not be harmfull to anybody...
