Product uses Open-C, But not allowed to embed in sis file, Is that fine for signing?

Hi,

We will soon apply for Symbian signing of our product
to a test house.

Our product uses Open-C sis files from Nokia. Although
Open-C sis files are free and can be redistributed as per
Nokia, we can not embed the sis files in our product because
Our Legal department does not allow that.

So I want to instruct the test house to install Open-C sis
files on the phone before installing and testing our product.
I want to know if the test house would raise objection
in that.

Can you please let us know, if the test house will fail our
product for this or this is absolutely fine?

Hi,

May I ask what is the reason given by your legal for not allowing embedding the OpenC .sis in your .sis file? All OpenC documentation that I have seen supports redistribution of the .sis files. Could you perhaps get an exact quote from your legal (noting what document it is from) so that we can make the thing even more clear?

We will also follow up with the test houses to make sure that separate OpenC installation will not fail the tests. Note however that in that case the installation of the OpenC library must be very clear in the installation guide. It might take time for this info to penetrate, though..

Hi,

Managing embedded SIS files in the scope of Symbian Signed and/or Nokia Testing is usual. Such design is not preventing passing the criteria, except of course if issues are detected.
In the OpenCcase, the library is already signed, so except a note in the user documentation as Mitts said, I don’t see any issue there.
