I'm brand new to Symbian development and I was wondering if multiple developers can use the same certificate to sign applications.

    Much appreciated,

    Welcome to the Forum!!

Certificates are generated (assuming that you are speaking of developer certificate) attached to the IMEI. So as long as you are using the same 'set' of devices, no problems as to who is signing them.

As already said by Neil, would you please elaborate more about your question? Which type of Certificate? Self-signed or Developer Certificate?

    Neil,

Let me elaborate a bit. I'm doing Series 60 3rd Edition development and I've procured a Publisher ID from Trust Center and I've installed the certificate in my browser. I'm going to do an Express Sign because I'm using networking and multimedia APIs, which according to my understanding, will not work if the application is Open Signed.

Give this, can more than one developer in my organization Express Sign applications with my certificate?

Kiran - thanks for the link.

Let me elaborate more about answer.

First explaining about development certificate. Assume that you are in development phase of your application and you want to test your application thoroughly so that it will be passed by Symbiansigned without any problem. If your application requires only user-grantable capabilities, then you can use Self-signed certificate which doesn't cost you anything. It is free. But if your application requires more capabilities other than user-grantable then you have to use developer certificate. Currently there are two mechanism to get developer certificate.
    - Open Signed Online
    - Open Signed Offline

    1) Open Signed Online: When you do not have Publisher ID then you can use this mechanism. Here you can provide only one IMEI number while requesting through Open Signed Online. Hence it will be installed on that particular IMEI(phone).

    2) Open Signed Offline: When you are having Publisher ID, you can use Open Signed Offline mechanism. In this case, you can provide upto 1000 IMEIs in single developer certificate request. Hence you can install/test your application on those IMEIs which you have given in the developer certificate request.

Express signing is used when you want your application to be Symbiansigned so that it will be installed on all the mobile phones you have targeted without giving any installation warnings. In other words, it is a process of getting your application in market for selling.

    I hope this helps.
