Python Series 60 App Store?

It seems like it should be quite straightforward to define a format for repositories of pys60 scripts with an associated application to choose between them, submit reviews, download them, launch them and so on, ideally entirely written using pys60.

Admittedly it's not particularly difficult at the moment to download and install pys60 scripts, but making it possible to do this natively would be very convenient and potentially popular facility - look at the success of the Apple iPhone app store.

The requirements would presumably be:

• login/user id of some kind
• view "feed" of apps
• dl an application script (+image files etc) and write to file
• review and "uninstall" scripts
• a specification and implementation for the server side of this

Is anything here impossible/anything I've missed out?

Well,

I think you might have missed that it's possible to create SIS files from script.py and thus distribute as normal apps... but otherwise great idea!

I hadn't got round to trying this as it always seemed quite awkward, but it appears that it may have become easier with the latest version of pys60? But I think it still requires the Python runtime to be installed too? And aren't there issues with signing of installer files that wouldn't be the case with pys60 scripts? So something like an "app store"/repository browser should make distribution of pys60 apps more accessible. Another benefit to an "app store" working with scripts is that the user could actually see and modify the source code.

It's a great idea! Creating sis, getting them signed etc. is all a bit too much hassle, and takes away some of the ease of python, imho. I would be up for it :-)
