We are currently developing an application that uses an autostart on boot function. The function can be disabled from the handset but is password protected. We are aware that this means our app is going to fail symbian signed test UNI-11, so we were going to try and apply for a waiver. Our question is do we need to seek a " a supporting statement from an operator or phone manufacturer" ? and if so how would we approch this ?

    many thanks

if you don't have supporting statements, then you leave it blank.

ok thanks for your reply ..

just to clarfiy, should we be looking to get maufacturer approval for a supporting statment ? some of the documentation says that waivers are normally acopanied by a statment so should we be trying to get one ?

you don't need to get that one, basically as far as I have understood the thing, it is to show a business case support which would make it easier to get your waiver approved.

Anyway, maybe you should check whether you actually need a waiver, if your autostart is by default off, and then user sets it on, then it would be users choice, and if you clearly state in the users manual that they need to use password (that the user can change/set) when setting it off, I might consider it enough, but you should propably contact somebody in the symbian signing to verify my assumption.
