extracting data from form field text editor

hi to all dears,


i am new to symbian.

right now i m trying to extract a data from the form field plain text editor. for this i m using following line as a code

" CEikEdwin* iEditor = static_cast <CEikEdwin*> (CEikDialog::Control(EMyAppControlIdTextEd)); in following erro"


i m getting following errors

"1.function call '[CUI_LoginAppView].Control(int)' does not match
2.'CEikDialog::Control(int) const' (non-static)"


plz help me out to solve this problem.

CEikDialog is a class, thus CEikDialog::Control(...) could be an invocation of a static method of that class. However CEikDialog has no such static method, Control is a regular member function.
You can find documentation about dialogs and other UI stuff if you visit Docs above, then Documentation, Symbian C++, UI, and you will find something like "S60 Platform: Avkon UI resources x.y".
Also note that accessing the bare controls of a dialog is rarely necessary, CEikDialog provides methods like GetEdwinText/SetEdwinTextL for example.

Agree with wiz and in case you really need to access the control then you can try

CEikEdwin* someEdwin = static_cast< CEikEdwin* >(ControlOrNull( EMyAppControlIdTextEd));

as u have toldy tried in this wayd that control is global function so i had alread in this manner but it is still not working.

"CEikEdwin* iEditor = static_cast <CEikEdwin*> (Control(EMyAppControlIdTextEd)); "

then there is error: "undefined identifier".

i have also tried in this manner

"CEikEdwin* iEditor = (CEikEdwin*) (Control(EMyAppControlIdTextEd));"


then there is same error of function mismathing.

plz help out for this problem.

actually i m trying for the application of UI Login in that for the verification of the username and password. and

username is the field as text editor.so for verification i hav to read or extract the text from that field.

if u hav any link of application like login then plz tell me.

this also giving the same errors.

Note that all these methods are supposed to be used inside a class which you inherit from CEikDialog. That is the Symbian way.
Have you checked the suggested documentation? I have checked it now, and it seems to be correct to me.
