    Hi all,

I'm developing a chat client using Flash Lite. I'm using XMLSocket to handle the communication between client and the server. After reading the documents from both Adobe and Nokia I thought devices with Flash Lite 2.1 support XMLSocket. However I'm getting the following error: "FTPS113: The XML Socket Request (server url censored) was ignored because XML Socket is not supported on this device." when running the software with Flash CS4's Nokia 3120 classic emulator. I have also tried it with the actual 3120c phone, but it is not working.

So my question is: is it so that all devices that support Flash Lite 2.1 don't support XMLSocket or can the real reason be that I'm not handling crossdomain policy or some other security related issue correctly?

The software is working on the generic Flash Lite 2.1 and some Nokia emulators and I have also tested it on N95 phone and it works.

    thanks,
    Antti Moilanen

    Hi Antti,

Most of the S40 devices that shipped with Flash Lite 2.1 have XMLSockets disabled. There are probably platform restrictions that prevent it from being possible, otherwise I'm sure it would be enabled.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the quick answer. I guess we have to use other way to communicate with the server then.

Does this apply for Flash Lite 3.0 devices too?

    Hi,
Its better you find out from the Device Profiles listed in Adobe Device Central CS4. Support of XMLSockets can be learned from there. remember in Flash Lite 3.0 you have a Security Sandbox coming into picture.

    Hey,

The answer is no, S40 does not support XMLSockets.

Unfortunately Could Nokia raise awarness of this fact? E.g. on the device information page it would say whether these kind of deviations from Adobe's Flash Lite specification apply for the device. This way the application developers would know whether they need/can support the device or not.
