Looking for an alternative to Ovi Maps for Japan.

Hello. Going to Japan next month. The Ovi Maps for Japan is a bit on the crappy side (something like a 6MB file for the entire country; so very little map detail). I have Google Maps on my phone, but international roaming data charges are expensive as hell (though I suppose I could load up Google Maps when/if I find a free open Wi-Fi network). Looking for some maps that I can download to my phone and use the integrated GPS-only with them. Anybody have a good alternative for me?

OK, no responses so far. How about this, anybody know how to save Google Map tiles locally and use them without a data connection?

This is a site for software developers, your question has better chance of getting an answer if you ask it on a forum where users are discussing about their phones, particularly if you find one with users which travel or are based in Japan. For a start try http://www.nokia.com/discussions

As for the second question, for a developer the problem would not be as much how to save the tiles but rather whether Google's API usage license allows adding such a feature to a mapping application.
