Is it possible to do Symbian/S60 development by using only Qt Creator, or is Carbide required for the development? I believe Carbide has to be installed because of compilers or other tolls bundled with it, but is it required to actually run and use it?

I've used Carbide a few months now for native Symbian development, but would much prefer to only use Qt Creator.

It's possible to compile, make sis without carbide. Also you can start emulator without carbide.
    Not sure what about debugging...

Another question, is it possible to use a custom build system/makefiles from inside QtCreator? Or does it rely on the Symbian build system like Carbide does?

I like using SCons to build my Symbian applications, but really doesn't work well with Carbide. Would be nice if I could just create a simple makefile that calls SCons.

I don't know what's SCons but yes - you can make build without launching carbide.
