Nokia 1208 PIN request

Every time I turn on the phone it asks me for the PIN code, as this is obviously extremely annoying I tried to turn the PIN request off but it says that I'm "not allowed"!
What the hell is going on here?

I'm no expert in hellish things but since the PIN is related to the SIM card and not to the phone itself, the only guess can be that the SIM card does not allow the PIN prompt to be turned off. Which is something your network operator/carrier should be able to tell you a hell lot about.
