    Hi everyone,

This may have been asked before, and it might be a stupid question so apologies upfront Looking at the table of VOIP enabled devices at http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph..._Nokia_devices, I can see that some of the older phones are listed under the older versions of the Nokia VOIP client.

Now my question is if you got one of these phones, could the phone be upgraded to the latest (3.1) version of the client? Is the client the same as http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n...Settings.html? Or is this something different?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but any advice would be appreciated!

    Cheers

No, that settings tool is just an user-interface for configuration settings. The client itself ships with the firmware.

Ok thanks. Why I asked was because its apparently only in Nokias S60
Rel 3.1 client that it supports wideband calling. If the in-built client can't be upgraded to this version, I would have to look to get a phone with this version already, rather than buying an older phone and then updating the clients version to 3.1.

Can you confirm I'm correct in my assumptions?

    Thanks.

The original Nokia client could be upgraded, however, I have not seen a device which was upgraded form 3.0 to 3.1, yet. Furthermore, enabling AMR-WB is not that easy, if you are not in control of the registrar/proxy. At the moment, there are several competing wideband codecs out there.
