bluetooth on need only basis

I would like to use bluetooth on my x6 ONLY to connect to my car's perviously paired handsfree speaker. meaning that the x6 bluetooth needs to be activated only when there is an incoming call. For making an outgoing call, it would be nice to have the x6 stay only in receive mode, listening to the paired handsfree device that is activated when I push a button or say an activate keyword.
this way the x6 will not be transmitting all the time (saving battery and unneeded radiation)
is such a feature possible or does it exist anyway (I do not know if bluetooth transmits constantly, as it sounds from the user manual that states that bluetooth reduced battery life)
