Failure. Cannot provision certificate database (-14)

Dear Forum Members,

I have received a certificate installer (sis) file from Ovi Store to install on my device for testing. And during installation, receive this messages:-

Nokia R&D Certificate Provisioner, replace version 1.01 with version 1.02...
(select "OK")

Some applications must be closed first ...
(select "OK")

Failure. Cannot provision certificate database (-14)

And the sis (certificate) file cannot be installed.

I have feedback the issue to Ovi Store, but have yet to receive any reply. Any members facing the same problem? Appreciate if you could share it and give some pointers.

If you have an older provisioner installed, it may be safer to uninstall it first.

I am having exactly the same problem. My old training certificate expired and I also obtained new credentials from the Ovi store. Could you please elaborate on the solution?

The answer above suggests that you should uninstall the expired certificate and install the new one. Have you tried that?

Thank you. At the risk of sounding terribly naive, the N8 is my first Nokia phone, and as the name of the provisioner did not match the name of the original install file, I had some difficulty finding what should be deleted. But it all works perfectly now; your suggestion is much appreciated! Thanks again.

Hi, i have the same problem, how can i solve it? i didn't understand how you solved it... I just tried to uninstall the nokia r&d certificate provisioner, but when i install the new one, i get the same error... what about the name of the installation file?

I have the same problem. Error -14 means that the resource is in use and I guess in this case it means the old certificate. Old certificate can't be uninstalled by hand either.

Is the only solution factory reset? Bit harsh if it is.

This is how I did it:

Go to Settings -> Application manager -> Installed apps.
Find Nokia R&D Certificate Provisioner, press and hold down until submenu shows up.
Choose uninstall.

I faced this exact problem on my dev C7-00. The steps to fix are:
1. Uninstall "Nokia R&D Certificate Provisioner" as in comment #8
2. Reboot the phone.
3. Install the new certificate sis file
4. Install your dev app.
