How do Spotlight and Promotion banners work? Are they all always in rotation and come up based on the customer's searches or browsed categories or I see the same ones over and over no matter what I search for or which apps I view or which device I have set.

    Self-bump for answer.

Also, I was wrong about different ads based on device. It does look like selecting a V3, V5, or ^3 device does change the rotation. If I set the device to N95 I get the same two banners over and over in stead of the same 7 with no device set..

    Hi,
I am not a Nokia employee and only had one app spotlighted once - it is, AFAIK, managed by Nokia and you have nothing to influence it.

I'm sure that's the case too. It would be nice to know the criteria for how they are chosen so I know if it's worth spending time to make the banners or what to include to increase the chance they will be chosen.

It makes the store look anemic to rotate two banners over and over.

im not a nokia rep but i know the answer...
their marketing and promotion team picks the apps that gets to be promoted most apps that filled the fields with images for promotion etc will not be shown ever (maybe due to promotion assets quality maybe not a hit app your company aint big enough etc etc it doesnt really matter whats the reason)
and you cant contact directly with the marketing/promotion team and ask to be promoted.

You could be right. I just find it hard to believe that even with completely arbitrary criteria a marketing and promo team would only chose 2 banners for all V3 content on OVI. Hopefully we'll see an answer from Ron.

I wonder also if it has to do with the browser being cached if Shift + Refresh brings up other promos (just speculating).

My contact in ovi marketing moved on so I had to send a message to another. But my curiosity is as much as yours.

    Trying again with cache disabled...

Doesn't look like it. Today I get the same single "Midnight Pool 2" banner over and over when set to N95 (which IMO is better than 2... looks more like a choice to have 1 rather than a limitation) With no phone set I get some others.

When set to C6-00 I get the same two ("Get apps on the go" OVI and Shazam)

The URLs are unique per banner so I don't think the browser would cache them:

    Midnight Pool 2:
    https://p.d.ovi.com/p/g/store/792404...mp;c=ovi_store
    Mobile Brain Trainer:
    https://p.d.ovi.com/p/g/store/207643...mp;c=ovi_store

FWIW - The banner doesn't change when the js updates content (different device, category select). It would be nice to have the banner be contextual.

@John.Tan - thanks for the post. So it's a selection process based on app downloads.

I wonder if one need to create banners first to be considered for the promotion, or will the Spotlighting Team ask a publisher to create them after being selected?
