Volume Control on N9

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, and new to developing software for the Nokia N9. I dont know where to start for what I am trying to do and I am hoping you can help me get the ball rolling on this one.

So basically, i want to make changes to the volume control buttons on the side of the n9. What i want to do is, instead of tapping the skip button on the home screen (i first have to unlock the phone with my pass code), I would rather want to double tap the increase/decrease volume buttons to skip to the next song.

Can anyone tell me where to start? where is the source code for these buttons?
