Yesterday we found out that if a publisher is using in-app purchase content availability is seriously limited. This information was shared by Ben from Nokia during Facebook chat session, see

You can publish content for Symbian^3 and Anna devices, but in case of Belle it is only available for 700 and 701 models. Based on our February download figures for another free product, 700 and 701 models only account for 2.1% of total downloads. As almost all Symbian devices now ship with Belle or are upgrade-able to Belle, using IAP cuts our target market size by 98%!
And there is not even estimate when IAP will be more widely available. What's worse, Nokia doesn't share this information anywhere in documentation but claims that "Symbian^3 and newer devices" support in-app purchase, see:

For us this means creating two new content items, one free and one paid. Old content item with useless IAP will be removed and we have to answer to Nokia 700 and 701 customers why they need to purchase the item again. My advice to Symbian publishers is not to use IAP if you want to make any money!
