Hi,
I intend to write a device driver using Series 60 SDK. Writing an IrDA printer driver may be a good idea. Are there any other suggestion. My aim is to learn how to write device drivers on Symbian OS. Can anybody tell me as to how to go abt it.
You guys read my mind. I don't know too much about this area, but seems to me that you probably need much more than what is provided with SDK...:-(
Source codes of SymbianOS would be nice..:-)

btw, I've always though you Yucca be the biggest guru in this forum and if even you don't know, then we are all doomed..:-)
i dont know how to write a device driver but i am sure that it's not possible with the sdk,
sdk's are like interfaces which allow us to use the functionality of the device drivers. and the device drivers are OEM specific.
this is my idea. what do you say pple.

Hi,
I have no experience within device drivers, but...
I think the real device drivers are part of the firmware. Obviously one could try to create a sw which acts like an device driver, and which is able to send data over e.g. irda or rs232...but is is not device driver.
unfortunatly to write a driver u need a documentation that only symbian parteners can get... and the price is pretty high .. from what have i learned it's about 15000 euro.... so if someone has the money ...and wnat's to share...:)
Does anybody know how to build a device driver???
I am a symbian platinum partner but still not able to compile any of the example device drivers given in the source code....
It give some hint about the arhitechture and the Symbian OS classes in use.
The Forum Nokia SDK's and tools designed for 3rd party - GUI, User side - applications and plugins, therefore device driver level or kernel side classes may not included. I assume there is Symbian support chanel exist for Platinium Partners related to the sources Symbian provide.
