    Hi,
I am trying to compile a simple Helloworldplus example from the Series 60 examples, but every time it does compile the resource at all and gives a pathetic error saying "Compile failed",giving no reasons as to why the compile has failed!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been using Perl v5.6 and Series 60 v2.0 for CW sdk.
Can somebody tell whats wrong here?
And yes have tried unistalling and re-installing umpteens times but still this has not fixed the error.

    Hi,

try building from the command line (using abld), maybe this will give you some better error messages

Well, I am having the same problem. So my question is if compiler fails from IDE, how we suppose to debug the application in emulator. Somebody please reply some solution.

There seems to be no solution and nobody from CW seems to be bothered about it.

My apologies for the delay in responding; I was out of the office.

S60 2.0 is pretty old and we no longer officially support it or test with it. Have you tried a more recent SDK?

If you really need 2.0, as a workaround you can build the resources from the command line and then debug the app inside CW.

    Regards,

    Matt P.

You did not understand correctly, I think. While I press debug (F5), it fails before starting emulator. However, it compiles well in command prompt and and with epoc command, it starts the emu either. But the app closes before it starts even with no helpful panic code. Something "like App closed". So it could be possible to see in debug mode, where the app really panics.

So in CodeWarrior it builds correctly but fails before launching the emulator? And from the command line the emulator launches correctly but the app closes immediately?

Please check your project settings. What do you have listed as the Host Application in your Runtime Settings? This should be epoc.exe.

    Regards,

    Matt P.

We need to develop a product using this version of the SDK only and cannot move onto any other versions. Also even after we have compiled from the command line and try to debug from CW,CW still tries to build the resource and fails again and again.

Hi, I have the same problems sometimes sometimes not... I found out that compiling from the command line should be done before compiling with CW. Maybe some resourcefiles are build correctly only by the abld build. When there is still a resource missing when building via commandline, we tried building with Visual Studio often then the .rsg file was build. After that building via command line works, and after that you can build with CW and of course debug with CW. Remember that everytime you change something in the .rss file(s). Hope I could help you.

That's a nice workaround! It worked for me. But my question is that we have bought license for CW 3.1. And certainly we should expect much more facilities and services with the updated version of cw. So it seems they are disproving their product and increasing the price. Thumbs down!!!

Don't give up yet, I'm not done looking into this. I just wanted to be sure that you had a workaround first. Now that you can be productive again, let's continue investigating this issue. Please go into your project settings, go to the Symbian Common panel, and check "Display generated commands in the message window." Then rebuild the project and send me the output.

    Regards,

    Matt P.

Is there anyway to compile the .rss file only in cw?

You should be able to right-click on the .resources file and select "Compile."

you can right click onto the resource folder in your project.mcp window and choose compile.
