Q:Why wont people run S60 3rd ED Maintenance Release with Carbide.C++

Like the title says WHY?

HelloWorldBasic Example fails with the base version.
Why are people loading the base version and Carbide C++ and complaining this example will not build.
YES everyone should realise this by now. There have been comments that his has been around is since 2005.

BUT there is "S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, for C++, Maintenance Release", why use the old version!.

Yes its been here nearly two months.

dont give quotes of
"I downloaded a version of 2005 and it does not work"

Load the newest version then if there is still a problem make a specific complaint.


If you dont want to use MR and prefer version 1.0 problems to 1.1 working say why here?.

Hi,
Well I suppose this will be the same old story of people not downloading and using the lastest release. No problems on the Nokia E61 Forum Champions Edition. Works well on Carbide Express.

If only to read the Carbide C++ help and S60 v9.2 help which is NOT available on Symbian Developer site yet!.

(yes! carbide.C++ recognised as IDE in s60 3rd FP1)

Well, in my case, the situation is exactly the other way around. On the MR SDK, in the emulator, when I exit from my application, the whole emulator crashes. This doesn't happen though on the "normal" 3rd Edition SDK. Didn't try with the FP1 yet.

I think the reason could be because the link given for downloading SDKs after installing Carbide.c++ points to the old 3rd Ed SDK rather than the Maintenance Release version.

I spent one whole precious weekend night doing just downloading and installing of carbide.c++ express and s60 3rd edition MR on my home computer. For some reason carbide doesnt recognise the presence of the SDK. When I had installed it on my work computer(a month earlier), everything went well(thank God...I still have a job as a Symbian developer becoz of that ).

All attempts to understand this issue fails. I seem to have done everything exactly the way I had done with my work computer. I dont understand.

Oh btw, I can compile and build from the command prompt(in my home computer), but Carbide...naah, it doesnt seem to know SDK at all!!!

Got my answer..and I would love to help people like me stuck.
In my case it might be because I have a Finnish version of windows in C drive. Carbide tries to check the presence of SDK by looking at the devices in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symbian.

In my case this path does not exist. my guess is if I can create this scenerio for carbide to get its path, then it should work....cant wait to go home and try!!
