WLAN through a Proxy

Hi there guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me here. I have the Nokia N80 and I have the WIFI working through the home WLAN fine.

Now I am tryin to connect at work and here we run a proxy server on port
3128 which needs a user name and password to get through. Now I have configured the WLAN connection to the router and it connects fine. But when I try and get out to the net it gets blocked. Now its not asking me foir a username and password as it would on a PC. I cannot see anywhere to add that user and password in the advanced set up in connectioins. Can this be done or is it basically a basic WLAN configeration?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think usually proxies don't require passwords (Internet Explorer / Firefox don't have such fields neither) so I think there is no way to set them.
If usually your computer is able to ask for user/pass during the connection, than maybe this is not possibile with phone.

Maybe if you are using the wifi as gateway also for the pc, you can try to login the proxy with the pc and then browse with the phone, in that way the proxy will think you have already logged in.

No it doesnt work that way - If i use bluetooth to connect to PC and then try and use PC to get to WLAN it might although no sucess there yet.

Otherwise I just simply cannot get through the proxy. It is quite a large network and the proxy is in place to stop un-authorised access to the net. I have a password which allows that access. Looks like no WLAN at work for me - well i spose there is always other things you could do while at work.... like mmmm work? :-)

Thanks Peter,

I have already browsed most of these places and read the manual a few times.

The specific issue is not discussed or addressed that I can see. That is not the connection to a WLAN as I can do that fine, its the issue of getting access through a proxy that requires a username and password to connect.

I have configured my N80 in the server section and I still cannot get access yet if I get the proxy disabled its fine. This means I get to the router fine and get blocked at the proxy.

Maybe I am missing something here but none of these issues or the manual covers proxy - with password - it touches on proxy and port only.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't have tried wlan enabled device yet so cannot help much,
just related information I think (for someone wanting to clear that topic):

which mentions EAP-LEAP fix (what I know only is that is somehow related to wlan security implementation)

Why not install a proxy on your work PC, eg Squid. You can give squid the details for a "parent proxy", which would be your work's proxy, complete with username and password. Then point your phone to your PC's IP address as it's proxy.
You might want to add some kind of IP filtering (ie, only allow the IP assigned to your phone) to squid, otherwise anyone on your network could find your proxy and access the net through it, thus anything unpleasent they look up would be logged as you!
That's the setup I use at my university to access the net off my N80. The browser on the N80 is truely superb!
