Bluetooth GPS simulator for j2me phone

If you want to develop a J2ME application for mobile phone to read NMEA sentence from a bluetooth GPS receiver, you need to have a bluetooth GPS receiver hardware.

If you do not have a bluetooth GPS receiver hardware, will it stop you from develop a GPS application for mobile phone?

I do not have bluetooth GPS receiver hardware but I want to develop a GPS application for mobile phone so I am looking for a bluetooth GPS simulator.

I spend a lot of time to search on the net. However, I could not find any bluetooth GPS simulator available anywhere. So I wrote a simple application BlueGPS that can run on any bluetooth enable phone to simulate a bluetooth GPS receiver.

BlueGPS did help me a lot when I develop GPS apllication without having bluetooth GPS receiver hardware. I hope it helpful for you as well.

Thank for your information but that simulator application is used for PC, it is not used for mobile phone.

I developed 2 GPS applications for mobile phone, you can follow these steps below to test with your phone with/without bluetooth GPS receiver.

How to test VGPSBlue with a bluetooth GPS receiver:

1. Go to open space and turn on your bluetooth GPS receiver.

2. Wait for a few minute so that your bluetooth GPS receiver can fix satellite signal.

3. Install VGPSBlue on your phone and run VGPSBlue.

4. Press Fire or key 5 in VGPSBlue to open menu. Select GPS Bonding menu.

5. VGPSBlue will search for bluetooth device. Select your bluetooth GPS from Device List and choose Bond.

6. Press Fire or key 5 in VGPSBlue to open menu again. Select GPS Tracking menu.

7. VGPSBlue will connect and receive NMEA sentences from the bluetooth GPS.

8. If your position is within the map, VGPSBlue will move the map according to your movement.

9. If your position is not within the map, VGPSBlue will show NMEA sentences on the screen only.

10. During GPS Tracking mode, if you press any key, VGPSBlue will change back to normal mode.

If you do not have bluetooth GPS receiver, you need to use BlueGPS (a bluetooth GPS simulator) to test VGPSBlue.

How to test VGPSBlue and BlueGPS:

1. You need 2 bluetooth enable phones

2. Install BlueGPS on one phone

3. Install VGPSBlue on the other phone

4. Run BlueGPS on the first phone

5. Run VGPSBlue on the second phone.

6. Press Fire or key 5 in VGPSBlue to open menu. Select GPS Bond menu.

7. VGPSBlue will search for bluetooth device. Select the phone that run BlueGPS from Device List and choose Bond.

8. Press Fire or key 5 in VGPSBlue to open menu again. Select GPS Tracking menu.

9. VGPSBlue will connect and receive NMEA sentences from the first phone.

10. VGPSBlue will move the map according to the sentences.

11. During GPS Tracking mode, if you press any key, VGPSBlue will change back to normal mode.


Important Warning:

Be careful when you test VGPSBlue regardless whether you walk, cycle or drive because it is very dangerous when you look at the small screen of the phone and travel at the same time.
