Audio Recording settings for the smallest file size

Hi,
I am a newbie to the multimedia stuffs. I am developing a voice recording application where i want to save the file at the smallest size possible.What settings(like the sample rate, mono/stereo, gain, volume,codec...etc) should i use in order to save the audio at the lowest possible file size?? Right now i am saving the voice as a wav file. Is there any other format that i can use so that the file size should be minimum?
BTW i am using the CMdaAudioRecorderUtility class for recording voice.

Wav is usually uncompressed, so that's a poor choice for minimizing the file size. Amr should give you much smaller files. As for the other parameters, they're quite obvious: mono requires less data than stereo, and the smaller the sample rate is, the smaller the amount of data you need to set. Gain and volume shouldn't matter.
