mobile hardware and j2me

i want to know if i can control or access or communicat with mobile hardware using j2me.

i want to make a j2me application like hyperterminal but it access the modem

of the mobile that the j2me application installed on ??

to my knowledge i dont think it will be possible if u notice for operations in j2me u need an api like for writing file there is file connection api and similar stuff. there is no api which will allow u to control hardware atleat i havent herd of it.
