background application for my nokia 6131

I have a question for all the people around here. I have a Nokia 6131 and I´m very pleased. It is a great phone for a lower budget. My question is: is it possible to run an application, for example, a simply Messenger application and pass the application in background for, i don´t know, searching for a number in Contacts ? As far as I read until now some people said that might be possible and some people don´t. Others people said that a Motorola V3x, if I´m not mistaking, that it´s possible to do some a thing.

Series 40 phones have only one active application. On S60 phones you can have applications running on the background.
