3rd and 5th Edition application development

A developer can easily make the the European SDK to Chinese by taking the following steps (described in my "dummies" wiki article shown at the url of my signature):

Start ==> Programs ==> S60 developer tools ==> 3rd Edition SDK ==> 1.1 MR ==> Languages ==> Change to Chinese

However, it seems not so straightforward to make the Chinese input method working by selecting the "#" key on the emulator as normally is done on the phone.

A workaround to solve to problem is to select the ABC key (on which has a pen icon). When an editor control is shown (for example, when composing an SMS message), selecting the ABC key will show up a menu to select the input method. Once the input method is selected, a developer may use mouse to select the buttons (1-9) to type in Chinese or other selected language characters.

Attached please find a sample code to find the UID of the installed applications. The sample code once was published at Forum Nokia "Code and Exmaples" section. However, unfortunately, it was removed. I have basically cleaned the code a little bit to make it working on our Nokia S60 3rd edition only! I think it is still a good untility to some developers!

Installation
Extract the plug-in (fhhgb.carbide.paniclookup.1.0.0.jar) to your Carbide.c++'s plug-in directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\Nokia\Carbide.c++\plugins). Launch Carbide.c++ and go to "Window -> Show View -> Other ...". Choose "Panic Lookup" from the list and click OK. In order to take advantage of the automatic detection feature, you have to turn on epocwind.out logging (Emulator: "Tools -> Preferences -> C++ Debug -> Enable EPOCWIND.OUT logging").

The real reason for not having the edition 4 is that all of Chinese people do not like the number 4 since it sounds like "death". This is the very reason why Nokia drops the number 4.
