    Cellphones could warn of imminent lightning strike
    Nokia have a patent out on this already!.

    Nokia (US patent application 2007/0085525). Software will then interpret them, work out the distance to the lightning

    Or you can just count the seconds after seeing the lightening and hearing it and divide by 5 (for Miles) or 3 (for kilometers) to see how far away it is.

    Note when in an open field and it is down to a km you probably don't have time to run for cover.

    PS cows are much more susceptible to electromagnetic forces and often die just from being in the proximity of a lightening strike without ever being hit.
