    ========================
In case you were not aware, we (Nokia) are working on a new C++ plug-in will allow Visual Studio 2005 users to build applications for S60 (Carbide.vs v3.0).

I am looking for some passionate beta testers to look at the product. If you are interested please contact me directly. To make this easier for me to respond quickly to you, please do the following:

    • Send email to me (first.last at nokia) with the subject Carbide.vs Beta Request
    • In the email, please answer the following:

    1. What edition/version of Visual Studio 2005 that you are using?
    2. What targets do you develop for (S60, MS Mobile, UIQ, etc)?
    3. What IDE's do you use?
    4. When will you have time to evaluate this product?
We need a small group of active testers, so if you are interested and will be willing to provide timely feedback then I would love to have you on the team.

    Regards,

    /Mike Trujillo

Sorry for the confusion. I did not want to explicitly post my email address (I get enough spam)

My first name is MIKE and my last name is TRUJILLO. So the email address is MIKE dot TRUJILLO ...)

Hi Mike, what is the current status with the beta carbide.vs 3.0 plug-in? Do you need more testers? Is there an expected public launch date?

The product is expected in November. Our beta program is underway and we have a pretty good group providing feedback on the tool.

One question : will this plug in work with all Series 60 SDKs, the 3rd edition as well as the older ones, down to Series 60 v1?

And while I have no time to beta-test, I very much appreciate this project!

    Cheers

    Victor

The new version will result in a fairly significant change in the set of supported SDKs.

First of all, the new version will be based on using (always) the Nokia (WINSCW) compiler for emulator builds. This means that WINS SDKs will no longer be supported, only WINSCW. This has a number of consequences, the main ones being that

    a) support for S60 1.x will cease as the WINSCW SDK for S60 1.x is no longer available
    b) the 2.x SDK language variants were all based on WINS and hence the support for these will cease.

So the set of supported SDKs at the time of release will be S60 2.0 - 3.2 Beta WINSCW.

Carbide.vs 3.0 - the plug-in to Visual Studio 2005 is now completed. Please go to Forum Nokia to download the product.

Remember - this work on Visual Studio 2005. All products EXCEPT Express Edition. We are updating the VS2003 product in a few weeks and we currently have no project in place for VS2008.

You can go to this link to download Carbide.vs 3.0 (VS2005)

Better use officially supported and well maintained Carbide.c++ IDE. Download it from here: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Library/T...r/Carbide.c++/

Indeed, and it has happened intentionally. Even when it existed, Carbide.vs was missing 80%* of the features of Carbide.c++

    * not an exact number, just indicates "vast majority"

PLEASE switch to Carbide. Especially if you used to work on Java or Palm, you will feel at home immediately. I actually consider its GUI superior to VS...
