Starting with Symbian C++ develop

I'm starting to develop in C++ for Symbian

I'd like to use Eclipse because I know this IDE.

I have used the tutorial at this link:

It advices to use:

• Microsoft .NET Software Development Kit
• Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003
• Microsoft Windows Platform SDK
• symbdev-0.5.2.zip (as plugin for Eclipse)

I didn't find Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003 because it was replaced by Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition.



what 's the better plugin to use with Eclipse?
Can you advise some tutorials to configure the environment to develop?

Then how about going with Carbide.C++ 1.2 IDE !

kiran is right. The Eclipse plug-in discussed in NewLC.com is rather old. If you look at the article's date, it was written in 2004.

Nowadays, you can use Carbide.c++, which should be better. :)

No. No need to remove anything from your PC unless you do not require them longer for other developments.

You may need:
* Active Perl
* Java Run Time (JRE)
* S60 SDK.

I have installed

* Active Perl (ActivePerl-5.6.1.635-MSWin32-x86.msi)
* Java Run Time (JRE 5.0)
* S60 SDK 3rd version. (S60-SDK-0548-3.0-f.3.215f.zip)

as showed in "Getting Started video" for Carbide.c++

when I build my first project there are this problems:

• 'abld' is not recognized as an internal or external command
• BLDMAKE ERROR: Directory "\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\EPOC32\" does not exist
• Build returned with exit value = 1

what is "abld" command?
why does it say that there isn't Directory "\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\EPOC32\"? It Exists!

Download 3rd entry from drop-down list:
"3rd Edition, Maintenance Release(328 MB)"

Uninstall the previous SDK.

PS: Make sure that all these things are in one drive for smooth proceeding. i.e : Perl, JRE, SDK etc...
