you can get all normal capabilities for freewares, just as you would get for normal commercial applications...
But if you don't want to symbian sign them, then you are limited to those capabilities that are available for Self-signing of course.

thanks yucca,
but guess I want some Phone regarding Application, initially as a single developer i prefer to let public use it as freeware. But for VOIP application, I may need MMDD capability. I may need allfiles and Network control capabilities.
Moreever I am experimenting some of applications. Which may need some APIs but it may be possible that the API is limited by capabilities.
Now If i want to distribute the application as a freeware, or I want to test it on my own device, I need symbian signed cert. But as far as i know, its not free.
So If I want to develope freeware app, can symbiansigned provide me the required capabilities to me for free? atleast for say my own device?
I just wanted to know whether this is possible or not? If yes how?
Thanks
Hi Digish,
You can get Developer Certificate for free from symbiansigned.com. Which will allow you to enter your device IMEI number and sign the app and run on that device.
And I think there are some latest changes made to the signing process. It is said that it is more developer friendly and costs less (Don't Know Exactly).

Hi,
You can get developer certificate from http://www.symbiansigned.com
You will need to create a login.
Please note that you cannot use public domain email ids to create the login.
Before it was allowed not most of them are blocked. However coolhotmail
isnt blocked. So try with the same.
You will have to specify the IMEI of the device for getting the cert. You can get all the 13 caps except the TCB, there is no way you can get this unless the OEM ( Nokia,SE Fujitsu etc ) can help you.
The steps to get the same are as follows.
1) First download the devcert requsest tool. Install and run it.
You can get this tool from http://developer.symbian.com
2) Specify the IMEI and generate the .csr ( certificate request file )
3) Log on to http://www.symbiansigned.com and get the certificate.
4) You will be allowed only one IMEI per .csr file if you dont have the ACS publisher id which you can get by paying 250$ and it is given only to organizations.
5) You can get max of 5 certificates per id per day.
There have been some changes made to the symbian signing process. Please check symbiansigned.com for more info.
Also if you want to release your application for the public, then you need to get it symbian signed. This info is also available on the above mentioned website.
Hope i could be of some help.
