VoIP overview on S60 platform Webinar -Dec. 13, 2007

The webinar covers the S60 platform and device features that are essential regarding VoIP. Most of the S60 3rd Edition phones include built-in internet telephony application that the end-user can make VoIP calls with but it can also be utilized from 3rd party applications.

This webinar will introduce a new VoIP profile provisioning method “File provisioning API” for VoIP that enables 3rd parties to create SIP based VoIP settings from a file to a S60 device.

2) Developing 3rd Party VoIP clients on S60 Platform
- The webinar covers the technologies needed when developing 3rd party VoIP clients on S60 Platform, including SIP, RTP, Audio Proxy Server (APS) and other individual APIs that are useful when developing VoIP clients.

This webinar will introduce the successor of APS, “VoIP Audio Services API” and how it will affect the current VoIP application developers.

Hi Dave,

The File Provisioning API is a wrapper that only enables provisioning VoIP related settings (SIP, VoIP, VoIP terminal, NAT/FW, bootstrap).

Hello,

Is there chance that audio encoder process with VoIP Audio Servies API will have higher priority than in APS. We have been experiencing audio quality issues when there is another application running in background while APS is encoding voice.

Thanks for your question.

We certainly have more control and flexibility with VAS than with APS in this regard. We do have a plan to conduct thorough performance analysis and make necessary optimizations. Bumping up VAS server priority may not be enough if CPU load is too high or audio threads are being blocked by the file or windows server, or if the bottleneck is say in the winsoc or BT server.

VAS threading has been redesigned as well as data transfer mechanism. We believe this alone should improve overall VoIP streaming performance. Before changing thread scheduling we would like to hear some feedback from the field. Since Symbian uses dynamic thread prioritization changing process/thread priority is a delicate matter and it also varies between adaptations. But it can certainly be looked into if needed.

Please give us more feedback after having a chance to test your app with VAS.
